Team News

After their Champions League final commitments for Arsenal, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke have all now joined up with the England camp.

If Tuchel opts to pick his strongest side, then Rice and Saka should be in from the off, along with Jude Bellingham, Reece James and Nico O'Reilly.

As for Costa Rica, Joel Campbell, who's notched 150 caps for his country, has been left out of the most recent national squad, meaning that the former Arsenal man will be absent here.

Long-time goalkeeper Keylor Navas is also absent, while Alejandro Bran, Kenneth Vargas and Warren Madrigal were all sent home following an alleged off-field incident.

England vs Costa Rica Predicted Lineups

  • England: Pickford; James, Stones, Guehi, O'Reilly; Anderson, Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Rashford; Kane
  • Costa Rica: Chamorro; Quiros, Mitchell, Faerron, Araya; Salazar, Flores; Mora, Soto, Alcocer; Ugalde

England vs Costa Rica Odds

England are massive favourites for Wednesday's encounter at 1/7, giving them an implied win probability of 87.5%, the draw is 11/2 and a Costa Rica victory can be backed at 14/1.

Harry Kane is favourite to score anytime at 8/15, while it's 3/5 for England to win to nil.

England vs Costa Rica Stats

  • England won the most recent meeting between the pair - a 2-0 victory back in June 2018
  • The Three Lions are unbeaten across their last 16 internationals across CONCACAF nations (W12 D4)
  • Costa Rica are winless in their previous five matches across all competitions

England -2 @ 5/4

England's narrow victory over New Zealand may be a cause for concern for some, but it was the first time since June 2004 that the Three Lions had played 22 different players in a match.

Tuchel is expected to name his best starting XI for this contest, which is why I'm backing a bigger winning margin. England haven’t scored more than twice in their last five games, but before that it was 13 in three games against Serbia, Wales and Latvia.

Costa Rica have shipped 10 goals across three games in 2026, losing recent friendlies against Iran and Colombia, so let's back a big Three Lions victory on the eve of the World Cup.

Player to score 2 or more goals - Harry Kane @ 9/4

Rather than back Kane to score anytime at 8/15, I'm picking him to score two or more goals at an attractive price of 9/4.

It's fair to say the hopes of the nation rest on the Bayern Munich man's shoulders this summer, and he scored his 79th international goal in 113 appearances on Saturday against New Zealand.

The 32-year-old has enjoyed a sensational campaign, bagging 66 times in 56 matches for the German giants, and he's the key piece of the England jigsaw.

Kane consistently averaged more than three shots per game during the season, and almost two shots on target per match, highlighting both the volume and quality of chances he continues to generate. He should get plenty of opportunities to strike against what is a poor Costa Rica defence.
