EFL Championship Winner Odds: Burnley’s odds slashed as Leeds slip up again

It’s all change at the top of the Championship with six games to go. Scott Parker’s Burnley were the only one of the big three to win this weekend as the Clarets jumped up to the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Coventry on Saturday.
Below I’ve taken a look at the Championship Winner Odds thanks to Betfred, while you can tune in for our weekly Championship podcast - The Sportsman Untitled every Monday.

Leeds United @ 5/4
As you can see, Leeds United perhaps surprisingly remain the favourites to win the Championship this term, despite dropping points again as they drew 1-1 at Luton Town on Saturday. They have been the best team in the league for most of the season, but they’ve now won just one of their last six and dropped down to third.
The Illan Meslier issue ended with him being dropped v Luton, but that doesn’t appear to have solved their drop-off in form. They are now out of the top two despite having scored 79 goals this term, 18 more than any other side.
However, they remain favourites for two reasons. First of all, they have the ‘easiest’ run-in on paper, as the opponents they still have to play have picked up an average of 1.24 points-per-game this season. For comparison, Burnley’s opponents have scooped an average of 1.46 ppg and Sheffield United’s 1.31.
That is also bumped up by the looming Easter Monday clash, where Burnley will host Sheffield United at Turf Moor. That could be a promotion decider, and Leeds will look to capitalise as they host Stoke on the same day. However, despite being favourites, the odds have shifted against them, as they were odds-on to lift the trophy on Friday. Can Daniel Farke turn things around?

Burnley 11/8
Burnley have been the big winners of the weekend, as the only side in the top three to win. They capitalised on a nightmare error from the Coventry defence to steal all three points at the CBS Arena, and in doing so they put themselves top of the table.
They are now 27 matches unbeaten in the Championship and the title is now in their hands with six games to play. Parker’s team may not play very attractive football - the ball was in play for just 47 minutes at Coventry - but they do get results. It’s hard to see them losing a game from now until the end of the season, but they do have a tough test on Tuesday night away at Derby.
Their incredible defence could carry them all the way to the title, but they have that massive clash v Sheffield United coming on Easter Monday. That could be a belting encounter, and Burnley are dreaming of another Championship title. They were 4/1 to win the league before this weekend - but now those odds have been slashed as they hold top spot.

Sheffield United 100/30
The big losers surely? Having made ground with a big Friday night win over Coventry last weekend, they followed it up with a 1-0 defeat to Oxford United, a side that were sliding towards the bottom three before that win.
The Blades have been narrowly winning games all season, and occasionally that will come back to bite them, but they still possess a lot of quality. Now one point behind Burnley and one point ahead of Leeds they can still win the title, but they are now long odds to do so.
It’s tough to beat Burnley, especially away from home, so that will be factored in here, and that shock defeat has seen them drift out from 7/4 to this big price. Honestly, I can’t call it. We’ve got a midweek round of games that will tell us a lot more, but if Burnley stay undefeated, they are going to go close.
Can Leeds bounce back from this choking run of form and will the Blades go under after that shock loss? I can’t wait to find out as the Championship season reaches its climax.
