Uefa champions league scaled

Dynamo Kyiv play their first competitive game of the season on Tuesday when they take on Partizan in the first leg of their second-round qualifying tie in the Champions League.

Neither side had much to smile about last season, as Dynamo Kyiv narrowly missed out on their 17th league title, finishing second to Shakhtar Donetsk by two points, although that was at least an improvement on their fourth-place finish the previous campaign. Partizan also lost out on domestic honours, also finishing second but in a much more convincing manner as they were 19 points behind winners Crvena zvezda in the Serbian top flight.

Dynamo Kyiv are 3/5 favourites to win in Lubin on Tuesday night, while the draw is 13/5, and Partizan are as big as 4/1 to win on the road.

Over 2.5 goals is priced at 5/6, while both teams to score is available at the same price.

A home win to nil is priced at 13/8, while Dynamo Kyiv are 6/4 to win in the half-time/full-time market.

Football Odds

Dynamo Kyiv coach Oleksandr Shovkovskyi will lean heavily on Vladyslav Vanat, who scored 14 goals in the Ukrainian Premier League last year.

He is fit to lead the line, while former West Ham and Borussia Dortmund forward Andriy Yarmolenko should also be named in the starting XI.

Partizan played their first Super Liga game at the weekend, and coach Aleksandar Stanojevic will be hoping they can improve on that outing, having edged to a 1-0 win in stoppage time against their ten-man hosts, Napredak. Kervin Arriaga made his debut in that game following his arrival from Minnesota United and is set to keep place despite being withdrawn late on.

Dynamo Kyiv to win @ 3/5

Dynamo Kyiv come into this game on the back of their first pre-season defeat of the summer, having lost 3-2 to Union Berlin.

While a defeat is never ideal, the fact they pushed a Bundesliga club all the way is a good sign.

The Blue and Whites have often fallen short when trying to qualify for the group stages, but they should be able to make a winning start as Partizan rarely get the chance to compete at this level.

Partizan last played in the competition in 2017, and their away record does not bode well for their visit to face Dynamo on Tuesday. They have lost five of their last 10 away matches, including friendlies, and another tough trip should be their undoing this week.

Dynamo kyiv to win at 3/5 Under 2.5 goals @ 5/6

Partizan have not travelled well of late, and have only scored once in each of their last two competitive away matches.

In their last four Champions League away games, they have failed to win any of them, and were unable to trouble the scoresheet in two of those matches.

Dynamo Kyiv have the better squad and more experience in Europe, and Partizan will know that they stand a better chance of qualifying at home in the second leg.

They will no doubt try to keep things tight, and that should ensure we get a low-scoring encounter in Lubin, particularly with Dynamo just starting their season.
