2 dundee vs ross county predictions betting tips spl wednesday may 14 2025

There's a real 'six-pointer' taking place in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night (19:45) as Dundee FC host Ross County at Dens Park. The Dee are currently 10th in the 12-team league, which sees the bottom club automatically relegated, and the 11th-placed side forced to face the Championship play-off winners over two legs to determine who competes in the top tier next season.

Just two points separate Dundee and Ross County (11th) heading into this contest, so the stakes are sky high. Below are my Dundee vs Ross County predictions, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.

Dundee vs Ross County Betting Tips

Team News

Jordan McGhee (Achilles) will miss a fourth straight match for Dundee, who could also be without Sebastian Palmer-Houlden (unspecified) on Wednesday.

Tony Docherty could make a few changes to his starting XI following back-to-back defeats against Motherwell (1-2) and Kilmarnock (3-2). Oluwaseun Adewumi started the first of those losses before dropping down to the bench, but he could earn a recall at Dens Park after providing the assist for Lyall Cameron's first goal against Kilmarnock.

Football Odds

Finlay Robertson came on for Palmer-Houlden in the 74th minute of that game, and he could replace the 21-year-old in the line-up if he's not passed fit.

Dundee's leading marksman this season, 16-goal Simon Murray, will lead the line again on Wednesday.

Dundee vs Ross County Stats

  • Dundee (68) are fifth in the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership yellow card table
  • Ross County received 45 booking points in their last game
  • Akil Wright (ROS) has scored in two separate matches against Dundee this season

Ross County will be without the suspended Zac Ashworth for their trip to Dens Park, following the Blackpool loanee's dismissal in their 2-1 defeat at St Johnstone on Saturday.

Noah Chilvers (knee), Andrew MacLeod (groin) and Ryan Leak (Achilles) are out injured for Don Cowie's side, while Scott Allardice (knee) is a doubt.

Dundee vs Ross County Odds

Dundee have lost all three previous games against Ross County in 2024/25, yet Wednesday's hosts are 19/20 to triumph in their final season meeting, implying a 51.3% probability of success. That can perhaps be explained by the visitors' rotten recent form, which has seen them lose their last seven matches, resulting in their 3/1 price.

The draw is offered at 13/5, both teams to score at 8/11, and over 2.5 total goals - a winner in the last two games - at 10/11.

Booking Points Over/Under +42.5 - Over 42.5 @ 13/8

All three meetings between the two teams this season have seen 30 or fewer booking points awarded, but all of those head-to-heads pale into insignificance compared to Wednesday's game, with Dundee able to secure their safety by beating County, who will be looking to overtake their visitors and assume control heading into their final fixture on Saturday.

The stakes are high, and as a result, we could see some full-blooded challenges at Dens Park, and several mischievous moments, including timewasting.

Over 42.5 booking points, therefore, piques my interest at 13/8.

Five yellow cards would be enough for this selection to land, as a caution corresponds to 10 booking points with Betfred. A red card would also be a big boost as a straight dismissal amounts to 25 booking points, and two yellows resulting in a red, 35.

Dundee are fifth in the Scottish Premiership yellow card table this season, collecting 68 cautions compared to 10th-placed County's 59, although the Staggies (three) have triple the amount of red cards to their name and were shown 45 booking points alone in their last match, with 10 for their opponents, St Johnstone, making it 55 in total.

Wednesday's hosts only saw 30 booking points awarded in their last game, but in their most recent home match, a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell on May 3, there were 55, 45 in their direction as they received one red and two yellows.

Anytime Goalscorer - Akil Wright (ROS) @ 9/1

Given Akil Wright has already scored in two separate games against Dundee this season, 9/1 for the County defender to strike anytime on Wednesday is too good a price to turn down, in my opinion.

The 28-year-old opened the scoring in his side's 2-0 victory over Dundee at Global Energy Stadium in September and was on target again in their second meeting in Dingwall in February as County ran out 3-1 winners.

Wright didn't manage to get on the scoresheet in the Staggies' 3-0 success at Dens Park on Boxing Day, but he was deployed as a right-sided centre-back that day, rather than his usual right wing-back role, and he still recorded a shot at goal.

Where he lines up on Wednesday doesn't affect my thinking too much for this selection, however, as both of his goals this season against Dundee have been from corners, one with his head, and the other with his right foot.

The Derby-born defender has scored four Premiership goals in total this term, with only leading marksman Ronan Hale (10) and Jordan White (six) netting more times, so I think we're getting great odds for him to strike at any time in midweek.
