Dinamo Zagreb vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction: Visitor’s away woes can continue

Dinamo Zagreb will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Uefa Champions League to four matches on Wednesday (20:00, TNT Sports 7) when they take on Borussia Dortmund at Stadion Maksimir. Zagreb posted a 4-1 victory at Slovan Bratislava in their last outing, as the side have recovered brilliantly from their opening 9-2 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Dortmund head here after picking up a slender 1-0 victory over Sturm Graz last time out, but they should face a tougher test here. Read on for my Dinamo Zagreb vs Borussia Dortmund prediction, featuring the latest match odds and team news.
Dinamo Zagreb vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Tips
Dinamo Zagreb vs Borussia Dortmund Odds
Dinamo Zagreb are 7/2 to win this match, which gives them a theoretical chance of 22.2%. Dortmund are priced at 7/10 to take the three points, giving them an implied probability of 58.8%. The draw can be backed at 3/1 (25%).
Both teams to score is on offer at 8/15 and over 2.5 goals is marketed at the same odds.
Zagreb's Sandro Kulenovic has scored three goals in Europe this season so far, and he is 9/4 to score anytime on Wednesday.
Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy has three himself and is 6/5 to find the back of the net here.
Team News
Defensive midfielder Josip Misic was forced off in Dinamo's last match against Rijeka at the weekend and is unlikely to feature against the Black and Yellows, while fellow midfielder Petar Sucic is not expected to return to action until December at the earliest.
Lukas Kacavenda could start in the middle of the park, accompanied by Maxime Bernauer and Martin Baturina. Forwards Bruno Petkovic and Juan Cordoba are not be available for selection, and boss Nenad Bjelica may field a front three consisting of Dario Spikic, Kulenovic and Marko Pjaca.
For Dortmund, Karim Adeyemi, who himself has three goals in the Champions League, is not too far away from returning from a hamstring problem. Although this game appears too soon for him to come back.
Niklas Sule and Kjell Watjen are still sidelined for the visitors. Nico Schlotterbeck and Waldemar Anton should partner up in the heart of defence, while Emre Can and Felix Nmecha should be the two men in the engine room.
Boss Nuri Sahin must decide whether to start striker Guirassy from the off or to utilise him from the bench. If he opts for the latter, we will likely see Maximilian Beier lead the line for the German outfit.
It is likely that Donyell Malen and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens will provide support from the flanks.
Dinamo Zagreb or draw and both teams to score @ 15/8
Dortmund may be perceived as the favourites to win this match, but I'm not so sure. The Black and Yellows are in terrible form away from home, having lost their last six encounters on the road across all competitions.
I can see their wait for an away win continuing on Wednesday because Dinamo Zagreb are unbeaten in their last three in the Champions League, including a 2-2 draw at home against Monaco.
Their two victories have been away from home against RB Salzburg and Slovan Bratislava. Dortmund will provide a tougher test than those two sides but their poor record on the road will have the hosts fired up for this clash.
They will not want a repeat of the Bayern game back in September, although I don't think there's any trouble with that happening again. I've covered Dinamo Zagreb and draw here because I think they will profit against Sahin's men, I'm just not confident enough in backing them solely to win.
Dortmund still have the attacking quality to turn their fortunes around away from home, I'm just not sure this is the game for that to happen. I've also boosted the odds by adding both teams to score because the two sides are blessed with players who have been prolific in Europe so far.
Also, BTTS has been a winning selection in three of Zagreb's four matches in the Champions League to date, so I think we will see this trend continue.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Donyell Malen anytime goalscorer @ 9/4
Another trend I can see continuing on Wednesday is for this man to get on the scoresheet. I may not be favouring Dortmund to win this match, but I think they will be involved in the action and that goals will be on offer to them.
Guirassy may be their most prolific figure in Europe right now, but with him not guaranteed to start, I've gone with Malen. The wide man has found the back of the net in Dortmund's last two Champions League fixtures against Sturm Graz and Real Madrid.
He has the same number of goals (two) in Europe as he does in the Bundesliga, in seven less appearances. The Dutchman appears to be saving his best stuff for this competition. He's likely to start this match so I fancy his chances to extend his scoring run to three matches to equal Guirassy and Adeyemi's tallies.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
