France to win & both teams to score vs Colombia @ 11/5
France came within a penalty shootout of retaining the World Cup in Qatar four years ago and have been at the top of the international game for the last 10 years, so they are rightly considered among the favourites to celebrate global glory for the third time this summer.
Manager Didier Deschamps will bring his 12-year spell at the French helm to an end at this year's tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico and Les Bleus are set to cross the Atlantic with a squad that will be the envy of many of the 48 teams competing for international football's biggest prize.
They set out their stall on Thursday when they saw off Brazil 2-1 in the first game of their tour of the States despite playing most of the second half with ten men and that laid down a real marker for the nation that have won seven of their last eight matches.
However, as Deschamps has world-class talent in virtually every department, his embarrassment of riches will allow some of his fringe players an opportunity to impress, and that could give Colombia a chance to make their mark.
The South Americans cannot be dismissed and they will be expected to provide any team at the World Cup with a tough test as the team who finished third in the tough Conmebol qualifying section.
They fell to a 2-1 defeat against Croatia in Orlando on Thursday, but that was the first loss they have suffered in the last year, and they would love to prove themselves against one of the teams considered most likely to be taking the trophy home with them this summer.
A positive approach looks likely from the South Americans and they should be encouraged by the fact that France conceded in both of their qualifiers against Iceland and also in a 3-1 visit to Azerbaijan in their final group outing.
With Deschamps likely to experiment with his line-up, Colombia may be able to exploit the odd gap in the French defence, so, while it would be a big surprise if they were to beat Les Bleus, don't be shocked if they make their mark in an entertaining defeat.
