Crystal Palace host Luton Town on Saturday afternoon (15:00) at Selhurst Park, looking to return to winning ways after a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last time out. Oliver Glasner will be pleased to have had a full week on the training ground to prepare for this one, and we are likely to see his tactical plan come into fruition over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile Luton are now four points from safety having lost their last four matches on the bounce, and will be desperate to give themselves a chance of survival as we approach the business end of the season. Below is our Crystal Palace vs Luton prediction, featuring a couple of betting tips.

Crystal Palace vs Luton Tips

  • Crystal Palace to win and over 3.5 goals @ 18/5
  • Jean-Phillipe Mateta to score anytime @ 9/5

Team News

Michael Olise, Rob Holding, Marc Guehi, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Cheick Doucoure are all out for this one for the home side. However, key man Ebere Eze made a goalscoring return last weekend and should feature here. Jordan Ayew was substituted with a hip issue in that defeat, but should be fit to play some part on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Luton have a sizable injury list, featuring the likes of Mads Andersen, Elijah Adebayo, Dan Potts, Marvelous Nakamba and Albert Sambi Lokonga. Gabriel Osho is also expected to miss this one, leaving the Hatters short of defensive options.

Match Odds

Crystal Palace are the 8/11 favourites heading into this one, giving them an implied win probability of 57 per cent, with Luton priced at 18/5 to take all three points. A draw can be backed at 11/4, BTTS is 8/11 and over 2.5 goals is 4/5.

Crystal Palace to win and over 3.5 goals @ 18/5

Given Luton have lost their last four games on the bounce and sit in the relegation zone, I expect Palace to win this game. That’s hardly a groundbreaking prediction, but we can extend our odds by adding over 3.5 goals to this selection.

Palace scored three at home to Burnley in their last Selhurst Park match, before losing 3-1 to Spurs across the capital. But it is Luton’s encounters that give me real belief heading into this one. They’ve lost their last five in all competitions, and their games have been packed with goals.

They’ve lost 3-2 to Aston Villa and 6-2 to Manchester City in their last two matches, while their last two away games finished 4-1 and 4-4. Their defence will be exposed again with all their injuries but they always have the ability to score goals. This should be another thrilling encounter, but I’m leaning towards the home side.

Jean-Phillipe Mateta to score anytime @ 9/5

I believe Palace will score at least three times in this match, so picking out a goalscorer makes sense. Although Eze made a goalscoring return against Spurs and is Palace’s best player, I think the 13/10 price on him to score anytime is a little short. Instead, I’m happy to back the number nine again.

He played 90 minutes against Spurs, and is clearly Glasner’s number one pick for that lone striker spot. Supported by the likes of Eze and Ayew, he should be able to bag at least once against a leaky Luton defence.
