Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United Prediction: Magpies need a response

Crystal Palace will look to build on their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last weekend in the Premier League when they entertain Newcastle United at Selhurst Park on Saturday (15:00). The Eagles have had a slow start to the season as they languish in the bottom three, only winning a single game in 12 attempts.
The Magpies were left stunned on Monday as they were outclassed in every department by West Ham United, with the Hammers winning 2-0. Eddie Howe's side will be looking for an immediate response here. Read on for my Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United prediction, alongside the latest match odds and team news.
Crystal Palace vs Betting Tips
Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United Odds
Crystal Palace are 7/4, or a 36.4% chance, of picking up their second win of the season. Newcastle are valued at 11/8 to pick up the three points, giving them an implied probability of 42.1%. The draw can be backed at 9/4 (30.8%).
Both teams to score is on offer at 8/13 and over 2.5 goals is marketed at 4/5.
Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has four goals in the top flight so far, and he is the 6/4 favourite to score anytime on Saturday. His teammate Harvey Barnes, who has had a mixture of starts and cameo appearances, also has four for the campaign and he is 5/2 to find the back of the net in south London.
Team News
Palace boss Oliver Glasner is unable to call upon the services of midfielder Daichi Kamada as he continues to serve the suspension he received for a reckless challenge against Fulham earlier this month.
Fellow midfielder Adam Wharton remains out of action due to injury, but the Eagles were able to welcome back Jefferson Lerma last time out, who made a cameo appearance against Villa. After a full week of training, the Colombian could be in contention to start against Newcastle.
Eberechi Eze and Chadi Riad weren't involved last week, and it remains to be seen whether the pair will be passed fit to feature on Saturday, with the Eagles in desperate need of the former's influence out on the pitch to help turn their fortunes around.
If he missed out again, we'll likely see Ismaila Sarr and youngster Justin Devenny, who scored against Villa, offer support to front man Jean-Philippe Mateta.
For Newcastle, after Monday's poor display, Howe could opt to make several changes for the trip to London. He will welcome back Dan Burn from suspension, so he could return to the heart of the back line in place of Lloyd Kelly.
The Magpies are still missing fellow centre-backs Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles due to long-term injuries, while Emil Krafth was recently checked into the medical bay after being clattered by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in training.
Callum Wilson made his first appearance of the season after returning from his latest injury setback, so he will provide another valuable option to Newcastle's squad this weekend. Kieran Trippier also came on in the second half against the Hammers, and he could be considered to start in place of Tino Livramento.
Midfielder Sandro Tonali will be hoping to return to the starting lineup after having to settle for a spot on the bench for the past three league games. The Italian could come in for either Joe Willock or Sean Longstaff.
After an underwhelming start to the campaign, Anthony Gordon could be dropped for Harvey Barnes on the left flank, or switched over to the right side if Joelinton is dropped back into midfield.
Draw or Newcastle and both teams to score @ 5/4
Palace will be spurred on after their point at Villa Park last time out and will be sensing an opportunity to pick up another result after seeing Newcastle's performance on Monday night.
The Selhurst Park faithful will also fancy their chances as they will look to make the atmosphere hostile for the visitors. I'm pretty confident Newcastle won't play anywhere near as badly as they did the other night because I don't think it's possible for the players to give less than they did.
They will have known they weren't good enough, so I'm expecting them to be fired up for this one to deliver an immediate response. It's been a mixed bag for the Magpies when playing away from home this season as they've won two, drawn two and lost two.
Eight points from a possible 18 on the road is respectable, but if Newcastle wish to return to the top four, they need to better their returns away from home. Their last away game was a victory, though, as they came from behind to beat an in-form Nottingham Forest side. That's why the West Ham game had so many people scratching their heads.
I think Howe will get the performance he didn't get earlier in the week, and I think they'll bounce back, I'm just unsure of how many points they will pick up. If they play like they did at Forest they can certainly win again, but Palace looked sharp against Villa and they'll fancy themselves to get at least a point here - so i've gone for double chance.
I've boosted the odds with both teams to score because it has been a winning selection in five of the Magpies' away days to date.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Bet Builder - Alexander Isak to score anytime & Will Hughes to receive a card @ 6/1
Striker Isak has not had the goal returns that he would have liked at this stage of the campaign, and he will be disappointed that he didn't score against the Hammers last time out.
He had an early effort ruled out by VAR and he had a couple half-chances in the game in which he would feel as though he could have done better. It brought an end to a three-game scoring streak in the top flight, but I think he will be capable of getting back on the scoresheet against the Eagles.
Palace midfielder Will Hughes returned to the midfield at Villa after serving his one-match suspension for accumulating his fifth yellow card of the season. The former Watford man is likely to feature again on Saturday and I expect he will be facing a much more energetic Newcastle midfield, who can make life difficult for him.
The Englishman has committed 17 fouls already this term, which averages at 2.80 per 90, so I think he could be in line for some more trouble at the weekend, in which I can see him collecting booking number six.
