Famous last words, but Crystal Palace's final-day fixture against Aston Villa at Selhurst Park on Sunday (KO, 16:00) could well be the game to watch in the Premier League this weekend.

Many eyes will be on Manchester City vs West Ham United and Arsenal vs Everton, but as outlined in my Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa prediction below, I expect the real entertainment to be served up in south London, as the soaring Eagles host the Champions League-elect Villans.

  • Crystal Palace to win & over 3.5 goals @ 5/2
  • Jhon Duran anytime goalscorer @ 2/1

Team News

Will Hughes was substituted in the 14th minute of last Saturday's 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, and Palace boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that the midfielder will miss his side's final game of the season.

The Austrian provided better news on Jefferson Lerma, however, with the Colombia international set to return to the squad for the first time since April 14.

Sam Johnstone, Rob Holding, Cheick Doucoure and Matheus Franca continue to miss out through injury, while Naouirou Ahamada is suspended after being sent off last weekend.

Villa's injury issues haven't subsided, and have actually worsened since their 3-3 draw against Liverpool on Monday night which secured fourth place.

Nicolo Zaniolo suffered a broken metatarsal in that game and is expected to miss this summer's European Championship with Italy as a result.

Youri Tielemans started against the Reds but will miss out on Sunday alongside Matty Cash, Morgan Rogers, Jacob Ramsey, Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia.

Palace have won five of their last six games, including their last three at Selhurst Park, and are 5/6 to record a victory to strengthen their top-10 hopes, giving them an implied win probability of 45.5%. Villa can be backed at 11/4, or a 26.7% chance, while the draw is available at 16/5.

Both teams to score can be found at 2/5 and over 3.5 goals at 10/11.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is in the form of his life, scoring 10 across his last 12 games, and is 23/20 to find the net anytime on Sunday.

Crystal Palace to win & over 3.5 goals @ 5/2

Manchester City's 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday secured Villa's place in next season's Champions League and means they can head into their final-day fixture in a relaxed mood.

Unai Emery's side cannot improve their league standing, but Palace certainly can. The 12th-placed Eagles are just two points behind bitter rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in the race for 10th and will be desperate to get the win which would give them a chance of a top-half finish.

Villa's form has tailed off at the back end of the season, with the Villans winning just three of their last 10 Premier League games, and failing to win any of their last five in all competitions.

They've also won just one of their last seven away from home, and with nothing to play for, I expect Emery to shuffle the pack, allowing younger players like Kaine Kesler Hayden, Tim Ireogbunam and Omari Kellyman to get a taste of the action.

Palace are unlikely to make as many changes, and the likes of Mateta, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze will be looking to dazzle supporters for one final time this season.

There have been exactly four goals in the Eagles' last two games, a 3-1 win at Wolves and a 4-0 victory over Manchester United at Selhurst Park, while they also thrashed West Ham 5-2 on home soil last month.

Villa shipped three goals to Liverpool on Monday and four to Olympiakos in the first leg of their Europa Conference League tie earlier this month, giving me confidence that Palace can beat them in a high-scoring contest.

Crystal Palace to beat Aston Villa & over 3.5 total goals at 5-2

Jhon Duran anytime goalscorer @ 2/1

One player who definitely deserves the opportunity to start the game on Sunday is Villa striker Jhon Duran.

Despite his club's achievements, it's been a pretty miserable campaign for the Colombian as he has played second-fiddle to Ollie Watkins throughout and has often found himself in the news for the wrong reasons.

But his name was in the back pages for all the right reasons earlier this week as he bagged a brace off the bench to rescue a point against Liverpool on Monday.

Duran now has five Premier League goals this season, despite limited playing time, and he will be looking to improve that tally on Sunday.

It will be interesting to see how Emery lines his side up at Selhurst Park, given Watkins will be desperate to start to hit the 20-goal mark in the league.

The Spaniard could pair Duran and Watkins together in a two-pronged forward line, and with the latter also registering 13 assists in the competition, there could be plenty of chances to go around.
