Monday night provides a Championship showdown in the West Midlands as Coventry City host West Bromwich Albion.

Having suffered playoff final heartbreak to Luton Town at the end of last season, Coventry have underwhelmed in the early stages of the new campaign and sit down in 20th place in the standings.

The Baggies have fared slightly better up in ninth place, although they are only five points better off,  and Monday’s clash provides an opportunity for both clubs to try and boost their play-off ambitions.

Coventry vs West Brom Tips

  • Coventry to win @ 13/10
  • Matt Godden to score anytime @ 9/5

Match Odds

The Sky Blues are the favourites in the match result market at 13/10 to claim all three points at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Visitors West Brom are 11/5 to inflict a first home defeat on the Sky Blues, which is the same price as the draw.

Under 2.5 total goals would have landed in four of Coventry’s last five home games and is 8/11 to happen again here.

Team News

Liam Kelly, Jamie Allen and Kasey Palmer all remain on the sidelines through injury and won’t feature for Coventry on Monday night.

Manager Mark Robins has a decision to make up front, with forward Haji Wright pushing for a starting role as goals have been hard to come by for the Sky Blues of late.

As for West Brom, Cedric Kipre is a doubt as the centre-back recovers from a knee injury.

Pipa or Darnell Furlong could deputise for Kipre in a back three, while midfielder Alex Mowatt could be set for a return in the middle of the park in place of Okay Yokuslu.

Coventry to win @ 13/10

While the Sky Blues have struggled on the road, their record on home soil has been impressive.

Coventry’s last home defeat came last season on April 1 at the hands of Stoke City and they have gone unbeaten at the Coventry Building Society Arena in 10 league games since.

West Brom have only won one of their last eight away games in the Championship and it’s an area they will need to improve on if they are to finish in the top six this season.

However, considering the Baggies’ woes on the road and Coventry’s strength on their own patch, a repeat of last season’s home win (1-0) is worth considering here.

Matt Godden to score anytime @ 9/5

Top goalscorer for Coventry this season, Matt Godden is a player to keep an eye on in the anytime goalscorer market.

Godden has scored 47 goals in all competitions since making the move to Coventry from Peterborough United in 2019.

The 32-year-old has already scored five Championship goals for the Sky Blues this season and it would be little surprise to see him find the back of the net again on Monday night, particularly considering the Baggies’ defence conceded three goals in their last away game at Birmingham City.
