Coventry needed a big result at home to unbeaten Blackburn on Tuesday night and they got it as they beat Rovers 3-0 at the CBS Arena. It was a performance more recognisable of manager Mark Robins and certainly the perfect tonic after the dismal display at Leeds. Next up for the Sky Blues, they host Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the international break, at 15:00 on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls meanwhile drew 0-0 at Bristol City in what was a tame game on Wednesday night, as they could only muster one shot on target at Ashton Gate. Below you can find my Coventry vs Sheff Wed prediction as the hosts target back-to-back league wins for the first time this campaign.

Coventry vs Sheff Wed Betting Tips

  • Haji Wright to score anytime @ 6/4
  • Coventry to win, Wright to score, Eccles and Windass to be booked @ 28/1

Team News

Coventry are without Jamie Allen and Rapha Borges Rodrigues through injury, and they lost Tatsuhiro Sakamoto in midweek as he suffered a nasty gash on his thigh. Ephron Mason-Clark will replace him on the right wing while Brandon Thomas-Asante was superb leading the line and will continue up front.

Ben Sheaf, Josh Eccles and Jack Rudoni will make up the midfield, while it seems as though Ben Wilson will continue in goal behind Bobby Thomas and Liam Kitching as the manager looks to finally name a settled back four.

Meanwhile, Liam Palmer went off at half time for Wednesday in midweek with a hamstring strain, and Olaf Kobacki came on but was then substituted himself with what looked like a calf problem. Danny Rohl isn’t having much luck with injuries at the moment, but on a brighter note Dominic Iorfa is close to a return having been out since August.

Ike Ugbo hasn’t scored a league goal this season so the experienced Michael Smith may be handed a start, which would allow the visitors to go more direct and win the second balls. Anthony Musaba was quiet at Ashton Gate and will be lucky to hold onto his place in the starting XI, while Rohl may have to rotate given the short turnaround between these two away trips.

Coventry vs Sheff Wed Odds

Coventry are the favourites to win this one, priced at 9/10 to take the three points. Sheff Wed can be backed at 5/2, while a draw is available at 12/5. Over 2.5 goals is priced up at 8/11 and BTTS is 8/13 for this one, while Haji Wright is favourite to open the scoring at 5/1.

Haji Wright to score anytime @ 6/4

I’m going to go back to Coventry’s main man for this one. The American international had only scored against Oxford this season before Tuesday night, but he found the net again to put the game out of Blackburn’s reach. It’s been a difficult start for both him and the Coventry team, and he has even found himself on the bench on a number of occasions.

But reinstated back into the front three, on the left where he is the most dangerous, he was a constant threat. His size, pace and power make him so difficult to deal with, while Cov actually ‘cheat’ a little bit by allowing him to stay forward as part of a narrow front two at times.

Jake Bidwell was the beneficiary of the space he vacated in midweek and he’s without a doubt the Sky Blues' biggest attacking threat. Given Wednesday have a few injury issues and have played with a back three this term, I’d expect Cov’s record signing to make the most of the space he is given.

Coventry vs Sheff Wed - Anytime Goal Scorer Haji Wright

Odds correct at time of publishing.

Coventry to win, Wright to score, Eccles and Windass to be booked @ 28/1

I’ve put together a little bet builder in the absence of any other markets that take my fancy for this one. I believe that Cov will go into the international break on a high. After failing to find their feet this year, Tuesday night felt like a real turning point, giving both the manager and the players a bit of breathing room as they previously lingered just above the drop.

I’ve already explained the Wright to score shout so won’t dwell on that one, but I also fancy there to be a few cards. Referee Dean Whitestone has given out four yellows in each of his last two games, while he also gave Wednesday three cards as they lost 4-0 at Sunderland early in the campaign.

Football Odds

These two shared four fairly fractious games last season as they met in the league and FA Cup, so I’ve picked out Eccles and Josh Windass to both go into the referee’s notebook. Eccles is the home side's combative midfielder who has been their standout player this term. He’s picked up two yellows so far, but they’ve both come at home and he will want to get the better of Wednesday’s midfield. Windass has a bit of an edge about him, and has picked up three yellows in all competitions this term, including two in his last two Championship appearances.

I think he could get wound up by the Cov defence and the home crowd will likely put the pressure on Whitestone to book the aggressive forward. With two Josh’s in the book, Haji on the scoresheet and a home win, this 28/1 shot is my second selection.
