The final weekend of Championship fixtures has arrived and Coventry will look to halt their disappointing end to the season with three points against a QPR side who have completed a great escape, with a game to spare. Marti Cifuentes has transformed their season since his arrival, and now they are looking to finish their season with three wins on the bounce.

Below you can find my Coventry vs QPR prediction (12:30, Saturday) as we round off what has been an enthralling Championship campaign.

Coventry vs QPR Betting Tips

  • QPR to win and BTTS @ 4/1
  • Lyndon Dykes and Haji Wright to score @ 5/1

Team News

Coventry have completely run out of steam towards the end of this season and their players are already eyeing up the sunscreen and beach towels in preparation for the summer.

Joel Latibeaudiere went off injured against Ipswich which leaves them with just one fit senior centre-back, so Jake Bidwell could fill-in in the heart of the defence. Callum O’Hare, Liam Kelly and Simon Moore are all set to leave this summer, so may be handed starts, although Mark Robins isn’t known for his sentimentality. Victor Torp, Luis Binks and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto remain out.

Meanwhile QPR, after a free midweek, are likely to name the same XI that battered Leeds United 4-0 at Loftus Road. Ilias Chair, Lyndon Dykes, Lucas Andersen and Sam Field all found the net in a wonderful performance, while Cifuentes’ settled back four of Jimmy Dunne, Steve Cook, Jake Clarke-Salter and Kenneth Paal is unlikely to be disturbed.

Match Odds

Coventry are priced at 6/5 for the win which gives them a win probability of 44% in their final match of the season. QPR are 15/8 for the victory and a draw is 9/4, while BTTS is 8/13 and over 2.5 goals is 8/11.

QPR to win and BTTS @ 4/1

As a Coventry fan, this has been a poor end to the season. Was it worth it for that day at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final? Absolutely. But one win in their final seven league games, and just one point in their last five is a dismal way to end any campaign.

The squad has been completely depleted through injuries and tiredness and although they played well in spells against Ipswich in midweek, it was more minutes they really didn’t need. They will be desperate to finish on a high, but this QPR side are flying right now. They’ve been utterly sensational under Cifuentes, who is up there with Danny Rohl and Kieran McKenna as manager of the season in my eyes.

Having battered Leeds, they could easily score several times against this weak Coventry backline. However, with the Sky Blues’ own attacking quality, and the fact that both teams have scored in nine out of their last 11 games, means I think we will see plenty of goals at the CBS Arena.

Lyndon Dykes and Haji Wright to score @ 5/1

Given I think goals will be on the cards at Saturday lunchtime, I think it is worth picking out a couple of goalscorers to find the net at some point. One from each team, let’s start with Lyndon Dykes from QPR. He’s only scored seven goals this term, but that makes him the R’s top goalscorer. He found the net against Leeds last time out, and is QPR’s designated penalty taker. He should be able to bully this fragile Cov back four.

Haji Wright also scored in midweek, and has enjoyed a profitable first season in England. Coventry’s record-signing has now scored 19 in all competitions, and gets the majority of chances for the Sky Blues. He should be able to finish the season with a flourish, and he is in a race with Ellis Simms, who also has 19, to be Coventry’s top scorer this term.
