Coventry vs Plymouth Prediction: Share of the spoils on the cards

Coventry and Plymouth are both in the relegation conversation at this stage of the season and neither side will want to end up on the losing side when they meet at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Tuesday night.

The Sky Blues lost in the play-off final last season but they have been unable to mount another serious challenge for promotion this term and are only two places above the drop zone.

Like Coventry, Plymouth have mustered just 19 points from their 17 matches and are only sitting one place above Tuesday's hosts due to their marginally better goal difference.

There is not a lot to separate these two teams heading into this contest and it would be no surprise to see this one end as a draw.

Coventry vs Plymouth Prediction

  • Draw @ 3/1
  • Kaine Kesler-Hayden to be carded @ 13/5

Team news

Fabio Tavares and Kasey Palmer have recently returned to first-team training and are getting closer to being included in a matchday squad, though this clash may come too soon.

Plymouth could again be without left-back Mickel Miller, who missed the win over Sunderland at the weekend due to a groin issue, while Ryan Hardie is not scheduled to return until next month because of a hamstring injury.

Match Odds

Coventry are the 4/6 favourites to chalk up just their fifth Championship win of the campaign, with the draw priced at 3/1 and Plymouth 18/5 to triumph for the first time on the road this term.

Both teams picked up wins to nil last time out and it is 21/10 that Coventry claim all three points with a clean sheet, while the Pilgrims are 17/2 to land another victory without conceding.

Draw @ 3/1

On first glance, Coventry's record of just one defeat from their eight home assignments this season makes for positive reading, but when delving deeper into these results their inability to get over the line comes into full view.

The Sky Blues have only picked up two victories on home soil, beating Middlesbrough and Blackburn, while they have drawn five times in their own backyard and this is a big reason why they are languishing near the bottom three.

While Mark Robins' side have been hard to beat, they are ultimately failing to get the job done in front of their own fans and they may have to settle for another share of the spoils on Tuesday.

Plymouth's away form has been dismal this season and they head to Coventry with just three points gathered from their eight road assignments, which puts into context how crucial their home form has been.

However, two of those three away draws for the Pilgrims have been recorded in their last four away outings - while the other two were narrow defeats at Ipswich and Leeds - and they look capable of heading back to Home Park with a point.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden to be carded @ 13/5

This could turn out to be a war of attrition between these two and there is the chance some cards could be dished out, with Plymouth full-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden a prime candidate to be cautioned.

The 21-year-old picked up his fourth yellow of the campaign in the win over Sunderland last time out and he may find it tough going up against Coventry's Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, who is an agile, tricky winger.
