Colchester vs Doncaster Prediction: Rovers are in the driving seat for the play-offs

Colchester United welcome Doncaster Rovers to the Colchester Community Stadium on Tuesday evening (19:45) in League 2, with the visitors looking to build on their nine-game winning run as they aim to sneak into the play-offs. Grant McCann's side came from behind to win 4-2 at home to play-off rivals Barrow over the weekend, reaffirming that momentum is with them heading into the final week of the season.

Colchester sit just above the relegation zone, three points ahead of Sutton United but their goal difference is seven goals better than the London club heading into their last two games of the season. I have laid down by Colchester vs Doncaster predictions below, which are weighted in favour of the visitors.

Colchester vs Doncaster Betting Tips

  • Doncaster to win @ 23/20
  • Over 1.5 Doncaster goals @ 1/1

Match Odds

Colchester are 2/1 to put the brakes on Doncaster's winning run, giving them a 33.3% shot at victory. Doncaster are 23/20 to win their ninth league game in a row, with an implied probability of 46.5%. The draw can be backed at 23/10 (30.3%).

Both teams to score is priced at 8/13, which has been a winning bet in 68% (30/44) of Colchester's League 2 matches this season. It has also landed in 55% (24/44) of Doncaster's clashes this term. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 8/11.

Team News

Colchester's Harry Anderson is set to miss the midweek clash with Doncaster, having been absent since picking up an injury against Stockport County at the beginning of the month. Samson Tovide and Tom Dallison are not available for selection due to the duo receiving red cards in recent weeks.

Harrison Biggins returned to action for Doncaster in style last time out as he scored the third goal to complete the comeback against Barrow, having missed the previous game with Accrington Stanley due to injury. Boss Grant McCann has no fresh injury concerns ahead of Tuesday's clash in Essex.

Doncaster to win @ 23/20

I still don't think many people comprehend just how mind-blowing Doncaster's winning run has been that has given them a great opportunity to finish in the play-offs. As late as early March, Rovers were 20th. Over a month later they're eighth, only out of the top seven on goal difference.

Eight wins in a row is phenomenal no matter what level of football you're playing at. Momentum is with Grant McCann's side heading into this one, against a Colchester side that are consistently inconsistent. There is more at stake for the visitors and I'm expecting them to grab their 10th win on the bounce here.

They showed great character to come from two goals down at the weekend so the players will be feeling unstoppable at this moment in time. And with the greatest respect to the hosts, Barrow were a much tougher opponent for Doncaster.

Doncaster to win at 23/20

Over 1.5 Doncaster goals @ 1/1

In Rovers' stunning winning run, only one of their nine matches has seen them score under 1.5 goals, with McCann's men having scored two or more in eight of them. Against a Colchester side just above the relegation zone, and who have leaked 75 goals this term, I reckon the visiting attackers can have a field day, especially after the weekend's showing.

I didn't want to get ahead of myself so that is why I've opted for over 1.5 goals for Doncaster, which at 1/1 still offers excellent value.
