Chile vs Brazil Prediction: Don’t expect too many goals

Chile take on Brazil at Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos on Thursday night (or Friday morning 01:00) in a World Cup qualifier. Brazil have lost four of their last five qualifiers as they find themselves eight points behind Argentina, who are currently at the top of the table.
The hosts have won just one of their eight qualifiers so far and they are winless in their last five qualifiers. Read on for my Chile vs Brazil prediction, featuring match odds and team news.
Chile are 9/2, or an 18.2% chance, to get back to winning ways here. Brazil are priced at 8/15 to take the three points, giving them an implied probability of 65.2%. The draw can be backed at 13/5 (27.8%).
Over 2.5 goals is available at 11/10 and both teams to score is on offer at the same odds.
Team News
Chile will be without the services of Marcelino Nunez for this international break, with the Norwich City man withdrawing from the squad with a hamstring injury.
Ulises Ortegoza has been called up to replace him, hoping to earn his first cap for La Roja. Fabian Hormazabal, Lucas Cepeda, Luciano Cabral and Marcelo Morales are other uncapped players who were named in the squad.
Toulouse left-back Gabriel Suazo has also been cut from the squad due to a hamstring tear.
Cambridge United goalkeeper Vincente Reyes has received his first senior call-up but it is unlikely he will be given a chance between the sticks just yet. He has taken the place of Gabriel Arias, who failed to impress in the last international break.
Brazil have lost Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jr. and Eder Militao due to injury but teammates Rodrygo and Endrick is okay to play his part over the course of this international break. Fulham's Andreas Pereira has been called up as a replacement.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is also ruled out through injury, and he has been replaced by veteran shot-stopper Weverton. Gabriel Martinelli has returned to the fold after rediscovering his form of late at Arsenal, while Manchester City wide man Savinho is also in the squad.
Brazil to win to nil @ 13/10
Both of these sides haven't been in the best of form of late but with the talent at their disposal, Brazil should have enough to put a valuable three points on the board.
Chile have lost four of their last six competitive games, and I can see this trend continuing against Selecao. La Roja have only found the back of the net once in their last six matches across all competitions, so they are really struggling in front of goal right now.
Brazil may be going through a difficult spell but they have more than enough talent within their ranks to turn their form around. Martinelli will be boosted by his own recent transformation at Arsenal, and he could have a big role to play over the next couple of fixtures.
Then there is his Gunners' teammate Gabriel Magalhaes who is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and one of the best goalscoring centre-backs in the world. He will always pose a threat from set-pieces, but Brazil's may not be as well thought out compared to Arsenal's.
In the last six meetings between these two teams, Brazil have won five of them to nil. This should bode well for them in the latest clash, especially with Chile in significantly much worse form than they are. I think the visitors are worth backing to win to nil here.

Under 2.5 goals @ 4/6
With that in mind, I don't think we will see too many goals in this contest. Like Argentina, Brazil don't tend to blow teams away that often despite the quality they have within their ranks.
Then there is of course their recent bad run in which they have only won one of their last five World Cup qualifiers. It will take some time for them to turn it around and climb the table, but a win over Chile could help start them off on a strong run of form, with a home clash with Peru coming up next week, which will also be viewed as winnable.
Under 2.5 goals has been a winning selection in Brazil's last four matches in all competitions, and I do think we will see this trend continue when they face Chile.
