Chelsea vs Servette Prediction: 80/1 shot for big home win

Chelsea’s bizarre existence will continue under Todd Boehly as they attempt to qualify for the Europa Conference League. After a sixth-place finish under Mauricio Pochettino (how long ago does that feel?) the Blues thought they would be playing Europa League football this season, before Manchester United won the FA Cup. 

Now, they will face Servette (20:00, TNT Sports) in a two-legged play-off just to make it into the group stages of Europe’s tertiary competition. How the mighty have fallen. Below you can find my Chelsea vs Servette prediction.

Team News

Chelsea have a million and one players, and now it is up to Enzo Maresca to try and fashion a team out of this bloated squad. I’d expect Filip Jorgensen to start in goal in place of Robert Sanchez, while in midfield the manager could rotate. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Pedro Neto could both start having joined this summer, while Marc Guiu could be given the nod up front. 

For Servette, Timothé Cognat and Dereck Kutesa could start in the wide areas while Julian von Moos is fresh from a cup hat-trick against Signal. Former France youth international Enzo Crivelli will play up front.

Chelsea are the hot favourites heading into this one, priced at 1/8 to take the win. Meanwhile, a draw is available at 6/1 and Sevette are 8/1 to find the win at Stamford Bridge. Over 2.5 goals is 4/11 and BTTS is 1/1.

Now I am not Chelsea’s biggest fan this season by any means. I think the club is a mess, they have far too many players, and Maresca has an awful lot to prove as a young manager. It also feels like it is not a positive environment for the young players to thrive in at this moment in time. 

But ultimately, football is often all about money. They’ve spent over a billion pounds on this squad and there are several top footballers in it as a result. Pedro Neto, Raheem Sterling, Marc Guiu and even Enzo Fernandez may feature in this game, and that should be enough for them to secure a handsome win. 

Chelsea to win 6-0 and Pedro Neto to score first @ 80/1

Servette were beaten 6-0 by Basel last week, and have already lost 3-1 to Lugano, and to Braga in the Europa League qualifying round. They aren’t full of confidence right now, and given Chelsea have 35 players desperate to make an impression, I think we could see a massive win at Stamford Bridge. 

I’m also going for a long-shot by backing Pedro Neto to score first. He should start having come off the bench against Manchester City, and Maresca will likely feature him on the right-wing, and give Cole Palmer a rest. I think he has all the talent in the world, so let’s back him to find the net first in a 6-0 home win.
