Liverpool to win

Mauricio Pochettino has lost four consecutive contests against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, including the 2019 Champions League final when he was in the Tottenham Hotspur dugout.

Liverpool will be looking to get themselves back amongst Europe’s elite this season, after finishing in fifth place last term, and the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai boosts their midfield quality to potentially higher than their opponents after they lost N’Golo Kante, although the transfer saga of Moises Caicedo is still unravelling between the two clubs at the time of writing.

Avoiding defeat will be tough here for Poch against a reinvigorated Reds side that finished last season strongly, triumphing in three of their final four away games last term.

Under 3.5 goals

Going into the game, Chelsea still lack a recognised goalscorer, although Nicolas Jackson and/or Christian Nkunku may step into that role as the season progresses.

Nevertheless, I’m not expecting Chelsea to score buckets of goals to begin the campaign, especially not in this game as they figure things out. However, Jurgen Klopp’s defence is not what is was compared to a couple of seasons ago, so I think backing fewer than four goals to be scored over some value when making this bet builder.

Mohamed Salah to score anytime

The Egyptian has scored in two of his last three top-flight starts against his former club, and has been among the goals during pre-season too.

He finished last season strongly, scoring eight in his final 12 for the Reds, and Liverpool’s no.11 also has the chance to extend his record-breaking streak of scoring on the opening weekend of Premier League campaigns on Sunday.

Salah is eyeing up seven in a row, and is currently the only player in the league’s history to have netted in six consecutive campaign openers, after converting against Fulham last August.
