Chelsea play host to Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening (19:45) at Stamford Bridge, as the Premier League sides meet in the Carabao Cup third round.
The Blues will be hoping some respite for their Premier League woes, while Brighton are enjoying a stellar campaign, beating Bournemouth last time out.
Mauricio Pochettino has somewhat of an injury crisis on his hands ahead of this clash, with Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James and Carney Chukwuemeka amongst the names sidelined through injury.
As for Brighton, Julio Enciso and Jakub Molder are absent for the foreseeable future, while James Milner and Pascal Gross are doubts for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Brighton to win (90 mins) @ 7/4
It’s hard to back the hosts for this one, considering the form that they’re in.
The Blues have failed to score in successive games against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Aston Villa, and head into this clash in 14th in the Premier League table, having only beaten Luton and AFC Wimbledon since early May.
Brighton beat Chelsea 4-1 and 2-1 last term and the Seagulls look far too strong for this depleted Blues outfit, having won three of their last four games.
Brighton over 2.5 goals (90 mins) @ 4/1
The Seagulls have scored at least two goals in their last four outings, and on three of those occasions, they managed to find the back of the net three times, against Manchester United, Newcastle United and Bournemouth.
Brighton have scored 20 goals in seven outings across all competitions this season, so I’m envisioning another handful of goals going in at Stamford Bridge.
The visitors are playing some of the best football in the Premier League at the moment, and they should be able to slice through this Chelsea side.
