Chelsea’s underwhelming Premier League season continues on Monday night (20:00) as they host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge. Neither of these sides have European football to contend with, while the Blues have an FA Cup quarter-final to come next weekend, in a bid to save their season.

However, we turn our attention to Premier League action here, as both clubs look to keep alive their outside hopes of finishing in the top seven this season. Below you can check out our Chelsea vs Newcastle prediction, featuring team news, match odds and betting tips.

Chelsea vs Newcastle Tips

  • Newcastle to win @ 13/5
  • Alexander Isak to score @ 6/4

Team News

Chelsea’s injury woes just continue to worsen. Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell have both suffered fresh injuries and are likely to miss this one, despite having started last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brentford. Meanwhile Conor Gallagher has a virus, and hasn’t trained this week yet, so that trio could join Reece James, Lesley Ugochukwu, Christopher Nkunku, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Carney Chukwuemeka on the injury table. It means Chelsea are likely to have to call on youngsters to fill the bench on Monday night.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United suffered a blow as Kieran Trippier suffered a calf injury that will keep him out for the next couple of weeks. Callum Wilson, Nick Pope and Joelinton remain out with long-term issues, while Lewis Hall cannot face his parent club, although that loan deal is set to be made permanent this summer.

Match Odds

Chelsea are 9/10 to win this game, with Newcastle priced at 13/5 to take all three points. A draw can be backed at 3/1, BTTS and over 2.5 goals are both priced at 4/9.

Newcastle to win @ 13/5

I was leaning towards a draw for this encounter between two sides that are evenly matched in my eyes. But I simply cannot get past Chelsea’ horrendous injury crisis. Without that aforementioned trio that started against Brentford, their squad is going to have to be changed again.

Although their wide range of summer signings means that they are not down to the bare bones, in key positions such as central midfield and wing-back, they are now lacking in depth and quality.

Even though Trippier is out, Newcastle now have a decent first XI to field. Key players Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaeres and Sven Botman are all fit to start, and with Tino Livramento likely to replace Trippier, we won’t see too much of a drop off in quality.I believe Eddie Howe’s men can go to Stamford Bridge and win, and the price of 13/5 for them to do so feels generous.

Alexander Isak to score @ 6/4

I’ve just mentioned him, and Isak has been in excellent goalscoring form this season. He’s remarkably bagged 11 league goals in just 17 games, with injuries hampering his progress towards the Golden Boot. If he had played the entire season, there’s no doubt that he would be challenging the likes of Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins at the top of the charts.

He scored last time out against Wolves, and has four goals in his last six league outings, a run that has spanned across another groin injury. The Swedish striker when he is fit is very difficult to stop, and he should be able to find the net against a leaky Chelsea side.
