Blackburn Rovers’ quest for survival continues this weekend as they travel to Middlesbrough for a 15:00 kick-off on Saturday afternoon. John Eustace has been unable to drag his side away from danger and four draws out of five has left them just three points above the drop.

Meanwhile, after another win in midweek, Boro are up to ninth and are hunting down the play-off places. Michael Carrick has got his side firing again and they are now five points off the top six, with nine to play. Here’s our Middlesbrough vs Blackburn prediction, featuring two betting selections for you to think about.

Middlesbrough vs Blackburn Tips

  • Middlesbrough to win and BTTS @ 12/5
  • Sammie Szmodics to score anytime @ 21/10

Team News

Michael Carrick named an unchanged team in his last three outings, and Boro have won all three. It’s difficult to see him changing things up here, with Sepp van den Berg in excellent form in defence. Jonny Howson and Lewis O’Brien will continue their excellent midfield partnership.

Kyle McFadzean is suspended for the visitors after his red card, so either Connor O'Riordan or Billy Koumetio may replace him, unless Eustace switches to four at the back. Ryan Hedges is back fit and could feature while Yasin Ayari started last week and probably will again after a good performance.

Match Odds

Middlesbrough are the clear favourites for this one, priced at 9/10 to take all three points. Meanwhile, Blackburn are 3/1 for the win, and a draw is 13/5. If you fancy goals, BTTS is priced at 8/13 and over 2.5 goals is available at 4/6.

Middlesbrough to win and BTTS @ 12/5

Boro are clearly the form side coming into this one, and three wins on the bounce is seriously impressive. They’ve now found a settled XI, with Emmanuel Latte Lath providing an excellent focal point, and their strong back three has now earnt them two clean sheets on the bounce.

They should have enough to beat this Blackburn outfit, who are without a win in their last seven matches. There’s just been too many draws for them to pull away from danger as of late, and now they are entering a tricky run of fixtures. It’s a worrying time on and off the pitch for Rovers, but they have been able to score goals of late.

Both teams have found the net in their last five matches in all competitions and as a result, I’m happy to back them to find the net again here, even against a decent Boro backline.

Sammie Szmodics to score anytime @ 21/10

The Championship’s top scorer being this price to find the net at anytime is always worth backing in my eyes. It’s been a remarkable season for Szmodics who has continued to score goals even when Rovers have struggled for results. Despite all the turmoil, he’s been a ruthless finisher, while his movement is always going to cause defences problems.

Now onto 21 league goals for the season, three clear of his nearest rival, he is in pole position to win the Golden Boot and can find the net again here. He’s been the one bright spark in a long, long season for Blackburn Rovers.
