It's an all-London affair for Sunday's (13:01, Sky Sports Football) League One play-off final as Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient do battle for a place in next season's Championship at Wembley. Charlton were last in the second tier in 2019/20, while you have to go back to 1982 for the last time Orient played in the second division.

This match promises to be an entertaining one but the Addicks have the advantage over the O's, having beaten them home and away in the regular campaign. Read on for my Charlton vs Leyton Orient predictions, supported by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

After keeping a clean sheet across both semi-final matches, Charlton boss Nathan Jones is expected to stick with Macaulay Gillesphey and Lloyd Jones in the heart of defence. The Addicks had a back four for the first leg of their semi-final against Wycombe Wanderers but it was a back three for the second leg.

Conor Coventry and Greg Docherty will man the engine room and they will hope to dictate the tempo of the contest, while allowing the attackers more freedom in the final third.

Thierry Small and Tyreece Campbell will provide the threat from out wide, while top scorer Matt Godden (22 goals in all competitions) will spearhead the attack for Charlton.

The physically-imposing Chuks Aneke will be a valuable asset from the bench, and he could be set for a big role at Wembley if required.

Charlton vs Leyton Orient Stats

  • Charlton beat Leyton Orient home and away this season
  • BTTS struck in one of those meetings
  • Matt Godden (CHA) has five goals in his past six appearances

Leyton Orient also have a number of forwards pushing for starts at the national stadium, including Dilan Markanday and Azeem Abdulai. The latter started the first leg of the semi-final against Stockport County, so boss Richie Wellens may consider restoring him to the team sheet on Sunday.

However, it looks likely that Jamie Donley, Ollie O'Neill and Dan Agyei will maintain their places in the supporting attacking roles behind front man Charlie Kelman - the League One Golden Boot winner with 21 goals.

The Queens Park Rangers loanee bagged a brace in the first leg of the O's semi-final clash with Stockport.

Ethan Galbraith is another attacking threat from right-back, and it was the Northern Ireland star who converted the winning spot-kick against the Hatters to send Orient to Wembley.

Charlton vs Leyton Orient Odds

Charlton have won five of their last seven matches heading into Sunday and they are 6/5 (which has an implied probability of 45.5%) to win in regulation time.

They were held to a draw in the first leg of the semi-final at Wycombe, while Orient drew both of their legs against Stockport. If you think this final will go to extra time the stalemate is available at 11/5.

Leyton Orient are 5/2 to win inside 90 minutes, and they too have won five of their previous seven fixtures coming into this clash.

BTTS was a winning selection in six of Orient's past seven matches and it is on offer at an attractive 1/1 on this occasion.

O's forward Kelman has two goals in as many games and he is 11/5 to strike anytime at Wembley (in 90 mins).

Charlton and both teams to score @ 4/1

This will be an interesting match up between two managers who have done excellent jobs in the third tier this term, and I think it should lead to a fascinating battle under the arch.

Charlton boss Jones will be hoping that it will be third time lucky for him at the national stadium, having failed to win in his last two trips - and I do believe this could be his year.

He got the better of his opposite number both home and away in League One this season, and I think this psychological advantage can play a huge role in this fixture. They do say form and previous results against opponents go out the window for games of this magnitude but I think on this occasion, Charlton's victories over Orient may just play into their hands.

There's little to separate the two sides coming into Sunday on form. They've both won five of their last seven games but in terms of the play-offs, Charlton did land a victory across the two legs while Orient did not (in regulation time).

On top of this, the Addicks have kept consecutive clean sheets, so their defence head to Wembley in good spirits. Based on how they have fared over the course of the campaign, I think I have to back Charlton to prevail in 90 minutes, but I think Orient can cause them problems.

That's why I've added BTTS, which has struck in six of the O's past seven fixtures - while it struck in their meeting with Charlton at Brisbane Road back in March.

Charlton vs Leyton Orient - Match Result & Both Teams to Score Charlton & Yes

Matt Godden anytime goalscorer @ 9/5

Veteran striker Godden was Charlton's hero late on against Wycombe to send the Addicks to Wembley, and it simply had to be him. He's their top scorer this season with 22 goals in all competitions.

The former Coventry City man has been one of the best forwards in League One this term and he arrives at Wembley in a good vein of form. The 33-year-old has five goals in his last five appearances for the Addicks, and I believe he can have a huge impact in Sunday's final.

It's sure to be an interesting match up between Godden and Leyton Orient's Kelman, who have been two of the best strikers in the division this season, and I think Godden will be the one who shines the most in this contest.
