Wrexham vs Coventry Prediction: More goals for league leaders?

Wrexham endured a miserable night on Tuesday as Cardiff City dumped them out of the Carabao Cup on home soil, and so Phil Parkinson will be hoping to bounce back in the league as the Championship’s unbeaten leaders Coventry City come to town (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event).
Below you will find my Wrexham vs Coventry predictions featuring team news and more, as I look to avoid a scare on Halloween.

Team News
Parkinson rang the changes for the Cardiff clash and was honest in his appraisal that it didn’t work on the night. Dominic Hyam and Dan Scarr were rested in the back three with Conor Coady starting, but expect those two to return to the XI here as Parkinson reverts - where he can - to the team that got a draw at Boro.
Callum Doyle remains suspended for the visit of the side he reached the play-off final with in 2022/23, while fellow defender Lewis Brunt has now been ruled out for three months with a knee injury. Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass have established themself as the first-choice forwards and will lead the attack against a Coventry defence that has conceded nine goals this season.
The Sky Blues have injuries to contend with in midfield with Jack Rudoni on his way back to fitness and Victor Torp now ruled out with a calf issue. It means Frank Lampard is having to get creative in the middle with Jamie Allen starting alongside Matt Grimes last time out, and Brandon Thomas-Asante flourishing in an attacking sense in the number 10 role.
He’s now the top scorer in the Championship with nine goals, but it will be interesting to see how Lampard plays this one. In their last away game at Portsmouth, he brought Luke Woolfenden into the defence and played a 5-2-3, which may tempt him again although creative full-back Milan van Ewijk is suspended so Kaine Kesler-Hayden will make his first Championship start for his new club.
Wrexham vs Coventry Predicted Lineups
Wrexham - Okonkwo; Cleworth, Hyam, Scarr; Kabore, Dobson, Thomason, O’Brien, Longman; Moore, Windass.
Coventry - Rushworth, Kesler-Hayden, Thomas, Woolfenden, Kitching, Dasilva; Grimes, Allen; Thomas-Asante, Wright, Mason-Clark.
Wrexham have been priced up as the 13/5 outsiders for this home clash, while Coventry are the 9/10 favourites to take all three points. That gives the away side an implied win probability of 53%, with a draw available at 12/5.
If goals are your bag, and they have been Coventry’s bag so far this term, over 2.5 can be backed at 8/11 while BTTS is 4/6. Wright is the favourite to open the scoring at 4/1.
Wrexham vs Coventry Stats
- Coventry are unbeaten at the top of the Championship
- Coventry have scored 34 goals, the most in the EFL
- Wrexham have drawn four of their last six games 1-1
Coventry to win and over 3.5 goals @ 4/1
Coventry are involved so there should be goals, even though Wrexham have tightened up a bit lately with all of their last six league games having under 2.5 goals. The Sky Blues are the best attacking side in England right now having scored 34 goals in 12 games, and they fired another three past Watford in their last outing, so we can expect them to open up again.
Their attacking efficiency is remarkable as they hit three goals from an xG of 1.31 against the Hornets and their goalscoring exploits don’t show any sign of slowing. I’m slightly concerned about the lack of options in midfield but the Sky Blues just can’t stop scoring right now, no matter what formation they play. Moore and Windass could cause problems at the other end, but I’m expecting Wrexham to get a fright on Halloween.
The Sky Blues can make it seven wins in a row with an entertaining performance.

Brandon Thomas-Asante to score anytime @ 6/4
The Championship’s top goalscorer is in superb form, and has filled the boots of Rudoni superbly. He has six goals in his last four Championship games, and nine in 12 league appearances in total, so the price of 6/4 for him to find the net anytime feels big.
He is so confident right now in front of goal, I think he is the most likely Coventry goalscorer. For a team that loves to bag goals, this is a sensible pick.
