Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry Prediction: Sky Blues to complete perfect week

Sheffield Wednesday are in major trouble, and things got worse this week as the staff and players didn’t receive their September wages. It means there is a grey cloud hanging over their weekend fixture with Coventry City (12:30, Sky Sports+), with more protests planned for this game.
There are murmurings of protests in the stands, while there are even some plans to stop this game in the 10th minute, to signify Dejphon Chansiri’s 10 years in charge of the club. In the hope that this game does get completed, below you can find my Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry predictions.

Team News
Kristian Pedersen will have to push his small squad to their limits here, although they do have the benefit of an extra day’s rest on their opponents. After a wonderful midweek performance, Wednesday will likely name a similar XI here, given the lack of senior options on the bench.
Ernie Weaver, who has been voted as the club's September Player of the Month, will start alongside Dominic Iorfa and Max Lowe in the back three, with Manchester United loanee Harry Amass starting at left wing-back and Liam Palmer on the opposite flank.
Barry Bannan was taken off in the 86th minute on Tuesday night having played the full 90 at Pompey, and it remains to be seen whether the 35-year-old can handle three games in a week, although he is set to start again. Bailey Cadamarteri and Jamal Lowe should continue as the front two, although George Brown has now scored two in two for the Owls.
Coventry are flying right now but they do have a few concerning injury issues in midfield. Victor Torp came off injured with an ankle issue at The Den and faces a late fitness test, but Jamie Allen should replace him in the middle and play alongside Matt Grimes if he doesn't come through that. Jack Rudoni’s absence means Josh Eccles is set to keep his place, but he also picked up a glute problem and faces a late fitness test.
Ephron Mason-Clark didn’t feature at Millwall but is likely to come off the bench at Hillsborough, with the front three of Brandon Thomas-Asante, Haji Wright and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto performing well up top. Luke Woolfenden got his first minutes in sky blue in midweek, and there’s a chance that Frank Lampard switches to a back three at some point due to this strenuous gameweek.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry Predicted Lineups
- Sheffield Wednesday (3-5-2) - Horvath; Iorfa, Weaver, Lowe; Palmer, Valery, Bannan, Ingelsson, Amass; Cadamarteri, Lowe

Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry Odds
As you’d expect, Sheffield Wednesday are the rank outsiders for this game, priced at 11/2 to take the three points. They almost beat Birmingham in midweek before they conceded late, and they beat Pompey at Fratton Park - so this could be a selection against the grain that offers value.
Coventry are 1/2 to take another win from this three-game week, giving them an implied win probability of 67% while a draw is 7/2. The Sky Blues have been scoring for fun, so over 2.5 goals is 8/13, BTTS is 4/5 and Wright is the favourite to score first at 10/3.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Coventry Stats
- Coventry have scored the most goals in the league (23)
- Coventry have kept two clean sheets in a row
- Haji Wright has scored seven goals in eight games
Coventry to win to nil @ 6/4
Lampard is cooking up something special at Coventry, and they have been so dominant across their eight league games so far. They’ve scored the most goals in the league by a mile (22), from a league-high xG of 17.3.
Their xG difference, the margin between their xG created and xG conceded, is an incredible +11.3, with the next-best in the division the +5.3 recorded by Ipswich Town. They should have more points on the board, but this week a 3-0 win over Birmingham and a 4-0 win over Millwall have strengthened their promotion credentials.
They’ve also tightened things up at the back, with two clean sheets on the bounce a relief for new goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and his defence. Another win to nil against a Sheffield Wednesday outfit that are up against it in terms of squad depth seems the most likely outcome.

Haji Wright to score two or more @ 6/1
Everything Wright touches turns to goals right now. Lampard has put his trust in him to lead the line rather than play on the left wing, and he has returned the favour with seven goals in eight games so far - including two at Millwall on Wednesday.
He struck with a devastating diving header for his second, and Coventry’s vibrant attack just seems to suit him down to a tee this term. He’s scored 1.05 goals per 90, or a goal every 86 minutes which is by far the best conversion rate in the division to date. Against this Wednesday defence, Wright should have a field day.
