Speedy progress up the Championship table could be made by the winners of Sheffield Wednesday’s clash with Swansea City at Hillsborough on Tuesday night (kick-off 19:45 BST, Sky Sports+).

There’s a single point separating the two sides in a congested mid-table area and the victory in S6 could catapult either side into the play-off picture. Here are my Sheff Wed vs Swansea predictions.

Sheff Wed vs Swansea Betting Tips

  • Under 1.5 Total Goals @ 9/4
  • Jamal Lowe first goalscorer @ 13/2

Team News

Wednesday should be able to welcome back Josh Windass, with the forward having missed the Owls’ last two fixtures due to injury at a time when he was also celebrating the birth of his first child.

Danny Rohl could again make changes in attack having brought back Olaf Kobacki and Ike Ugbo to start the 2-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.

Windass is just one of those who could step in, with Anthony Musaba, Svante Ingelsson, Michael Smith and former Swansea star Jamal Lowe all having come off the bench at the weekend.

The Swans have no Ji-Sung Eom, Josh Ginnelly or Andrew Fisher due to injury, while changes could be made in the forward line as a result of their lack of goals in recent times.

Since drawing 1-1 at Bristol City, Luke Williams’ side have failed to score in three matches, losing 1-0 to both Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers either side of a goalless draw with Stoke City.

That could mean a chance is given to Zan Vipotnik up front, with Liam Cullen potentially being used as an impact option from the bench.

Sheff Wed vs Swansea Odds

It’s Wednesday who have the nod from Betfred ahead of this one, with the Owls priced at 13/10 to record a third home win of the season. That implies a 43.5% chance that Rohl’s troops pick up the three points under the Hillsborough lights.

Swansea are 11/5, making them a 31.3% shot to take the victory back to South Wales, while the draw is priced at 9/4.

Under 1.5 Total Goals @ 9/4

Just look at Swansea’s for-and-against record this season. In 10 matches, they have scored only eight times and conceded seven. That 15-goal total is less than Wednesday have shipped, let alone adding the ones they’ve netted.

And while the Owls have been involved in some high-scoring games at times, beating Plymouth Argyle 4-0, then losing by the same score to Sunderland and later beating West Bromwich Albion 3-2, they were also happy enough to get their hands dirty when recording a 0-0 draw at Bristol City in their previous midweek clash.

I think there will be a win here for Wednesday, but it won’t be by much and I doubt it will be replayed back for years to come either. The safe bet is to build in the 0-0 with a 1-0 either way and go for the ‘Under 1.5’ option in the Total Goals market at a tasty-looking 9/4.

Jamal Lowe first goalscorer @ 13/2

You just get a feeling about the law of the ex sometimes, don’t you? Wednesday’s blank in front of goal on Saturday was punctuated with missed opportunities for Ike Ugbo and Michael Smith, neither of whom found the net when it seemed easier to score than to miss.

And so this might be a chance for Jamal Lowe to step back in, especially since there will be extra motivation for him up against a Swans side he spent 2023-24 on loan with, scoring nine times in 35 games.

Since netting Wednesday’s opening goal of the season against Plymouth, Lowe has scored just once – at Grimsby Town in a 5-1 Carabao Cup win – and so he is due a goal. If he does get the nod, I can see him once again scoring in this fixture (he scored FOR Swansea AGAINST Wednesday at Hillsborough in March).

Given that I reckon this will be a very low-scoring game, the first goalscorer market is more generous than going anytime. At 13/2, there’s real value in J-Lowe making sure Wednesday ‘Get Right’. Sorry…
