Sheff Utd vs Watford Prediction: Blades can pop Watford’s bubble

Watford are looking to continue their perfect start to the season as they travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheff Utd on Sunday afternoon (15:00, Sky Sports+). Tom Cleverley’s men haven’t put a foot wrong yet this season, scooping five wins from five in all competitions, with three of those coming in the Championship.
However, an away game against Sheff Utd will prove to be a major test, especially given the Blades didn’t lose any of their big guns on transfer deadline day. Below you can find my Sheff Utd vs Watford prediction, with betting tips and team news.
Team News
Chris Wilder will have breathed a sigh of relief at 11pm last night, in the knowledge that his star players had not been poached. Gustavo Hamer remains at this club, as do Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza, despite the trio all being linked with moves away this window. Oli Arblaster also remains at the club, and the Blades now have a shot at a top-six finish. Jamie Shackleton is also fit to feature, although Femi Seriki has picked up a leg injury and will miss out.
Meanwhile, we are unlikely to see too many changes to Watford’s usual XI given their good form, even though Mileta Rajovic is pushing for a start after his midweek brace. Vakoun Bayo looks set to retain his spot up top though, while deadline day arrivals Daniel Jebbison and Festy Ebosele could both be involved in the squad.
Sheff Utd are priced at 8/11 to win this game, with Watford available at 3/1. A draw can be backed at 5/2, while over 2.5 goals is 8/11 and BTTS is 4/6.
Sheff Utd to win @ 8/11
I do think Watford are good value to win this game, and Sheff Utd are a little short in the market - but I do believe that the hosts are going to come out with three points. My mind may have been swayed had transfer deadline day gone slightly differently, but the Blades boast a outstanding starting XI for this level now. Callum O’Hare, Kieffer Moore, Hamer, Arblaster and Souza are all top class Championship players, and the defence isn’t looking too shabby either.
There’s now no reason why they can’t enjoy a spectacular season in the second tier, and I think on paper, they should have more than enough to defeat a Watford side who are punching well above their weight. This will be a close encounter, but I’m comfortable backing Sheff Utd to get the win.
Gustavo Hamer to score @ 11/4
Still at Bramall Lane. Certainly too good for the Championship. Gustavo Hamer is an outstanding footballer, and has already scored two goals this season for the Blades. It’s remarkable that he is still at the club, but Sheff Utd can now get the best out of him.
We saw how effective he was in key moments when he was at Coventry as he scored in the play-off semi-final and final, and now playing further forwards on the left he can be a truly devastating attacking force. Wilder will want to get the best out of him, and I think he will find the net against the Hornets.
