Portsmouth vs Wrexham Prediction: Moore goals at Fratton Park?

Portsmouth are having a bit of a tough time right now and their fans were left exasperated by the 4-0 defeat to Birmingham City. That loss saw them drop to 20th in the league and after three defeats on the spin, there are now relegation concerns creeping in at Fratton Park.
Next up, they host Wrexham on Wednesday (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event), looking to get back to winning ways against the Welsh outfit. Check out my Portsmouth vs Wrexham predictions featuring team news and betting tips below.

Team News
John Mousinho named a ‘strange’ team, to say the least on Saturday as Ibane Bowat made his Championship debut out of position at left-back and Makenzie Kirk started up front.
I’d expect Colby Bishop and Conor Chaplin to return to the attack, while Connor Olgivie is also expected to return at left-back after his illness. Mousinho has done this sort of thing before, as last season he named weakened teams for some away games before going strong at home in a bid to maximise their points return.
Wrexham are likely to name an unchanged team after Phil Parkinson oversaw a 3-2 over Coventry City last time out. Kieffer Moore scored a hat-trick in that one and all three goals were assisted by Josh Windass, so expect those two to start up front again.
Ben Sheaf is back fit to play in midfield after missing the Cardiff City cup defeat, alongside Lewis O’Brien and Matty James. Dan Scarr, Max Cleworth and Dom Hyam should start as the back three in front of Arthur Okonkwo.
Portsmouth vs Wrexham Predicted Lineups
- Portsmouth - Bursik; Swanson, Knight, Poole, Ogilvie; Pack, Dozzell; Yang, Chaplin, Murphy; Bishop
- Wrexham - Okonkwo; Cleworth, Hyam, Scarr; Kabore, Sheaf, James, O'Brien, Cacace; Windass; Moore
Portsmouth are priced at 6/4 to win this game, while Wrexham are 15/8 to find all three points. That gives the home side an implied win probability of 40%, while a draw is 11/5.
Over 2.5 goals is 11/10, BTTS is 4/5 and Bishop is the favourite to score first at 5/1.
Portsmouth vs Wrexham Stats
- BTTS have scored in 10 of Wrexham's 13 games this season
- Kieffer Moore scored a perfect hat-trick on Friday night
BTTS @ 4/5
When Wrexham are involved, there are usually goals at both ends. Simple as that. This season, 10 of their 13 Championship games have seen BTTS including that thriller with Coventry on Friday night.
With Moore and Windass up top, they are always going to pose a threat and only Southampton can match their 77% success rate in the BTTS category this term.
Portsmouth aren’t quite as free-flowing having only scored 10 league goals in total, but now they have all their big-hitters back I think we should see major improvement in front of goal. Josh Murphy is so crucial to the way they play so his return is a welcome relief, while Bishop and Chaplin should be good for goals over the course of a season. Both teams should find the net at Fratton Park.

Kieffer Moore to score a header @ 6/1
Moore is one of the best strikers in the Championship and he proved it with a perfect hat-trick against the league leaders on Friday. His second goal was a tremendous back post header that Carl Rushworth couldn’t keep out and Wrexham’s direct style of play always means they will get crosses into the box.
Pompey had their struggles defending set pieces against Birmingham, and Moore should be licking his lips at facing this back line. He’s currently got seven goals in 13, and I’ll back him to nod another one in at Fratton Park.
