Coventry City have made a flying start to the Championship campaign, and before the midweek round of fixtures, sit second in the table and unbeaten so far. Frank Lampard’s next test comes away at Millwall (19:45, Sky Sports+), a team that have already beaten the Sky Blues this term in the Carabao Cup.

Alex Neil will hope to repeat that feat here, and below you can find my Millwall vs Coventry predictions featuring team news and betting tips.

Millwall vs Coventry Betting Tips

  • Coventry to win @ 7/5
  • Price Boost - Haji Wright to score first @ 11/2

Team News

Millwall boss Neil had looked like he wanted to pair Mihailo Ivanovic and Josh Coburn together up front in a 4-4-2 earlier in the season, but now it appears to be a case of one or the other in a 4-4-1-1 system.

Coburn got the nod in the recent 1-1 draw with Swansea, but in my opinion Ivanovic is the more talented option, so I’d back him to start against Coventry in this home match. Will Smallbone made his first Millwall start in a more attacking midfield role, along with summer signings Derek Mazou-Sacko and Massimo Luongo.

Billy Mitchell could come into the team to provide some more experience in the centre of the park, while the centre-back partnership of Tristan Crama and Jake Cooper looks very solid.

Football Odds

For Coventry, their small squad was hit by two key injuries over the last week as Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni both missed the win over Birmingham. EMC has a chance of returning on Wednesday night but the game comes too quickly for Rudoni, who will be out until after the international break.

The rest of the team picks itself right now, with Luke Woolfenden yet to appear for the Sky Blues given the strong form of centre-backs Bobby Thomas and Liam Kitching. Milan van Ewijk is keeping Kaine Kesler-Hayden out of the team, although there’s a slight chance that the former Aston Villa man could feature on the wing in place of Tatsuhiro Sakamoto if needed.

Brandon Thomas-Asante has been in fine form and will start on the left wing, with Haji Wright set to start up front once again. Victor Torp, with five goals to his name already, will partner Matt Grimes in midfield, with Josh Eccles set to keep his place as Rudoni’s replacement.

Millwall vs Coventry Predicted Lineups

  • Millwall - Benda; Leonard, Crama, Cooper, Bryan; Emakhu, Luongo, Mitchell, Neghli; Smallbone; Ivanovic
  • Coventry - Rushworth; Van Ewijk, Thomas, Kitching, Dasilva; Torp, Grimes; Sakamoto, Eccles, Thomas-Asante; Wright

Today's Football Fixtures

Millwall vs Coventry Odds

Millwall are priced at 15/8 to win this one, with Coventry the marginal favourites at 7/5. That gives the Sky Blues an implied win probability of 42% while a draw is available at 23/10.

Over 2.5 goals came in during Cov’s recent game with Birmingham City, and that is 10/11 while BTTS is 4/6. Wright is the favourite to score first at 9/2 although Betfred have price boosted that to 11/2.

Millwall vs Coventry Stats

  • Coventry are unbeaten with three wins and four draws
  • Coventry sit top of the xG and xGD charts
  • Haji Wright has scored five goals in the Championship

Coventry to win @ 7/5

This Coventry fan has been very impressed with what he has seen so far. The Sky Blues top the charts in terms of xG, shots and shots on targets - as well as scoring the most goals in the EFL (18).

From an attacking sense, it's been absolutely sensational and even without key man Rudoni, they should be able to cause plenty of problems. Millwall haven’t won any of their last five against Coventry (D1 L4), while the Sky Blues have won their last two visits to the Den, including a 1-0 win last season that was Lampard’s first victory in charge.

Millwall have won six of their last eight at home in the league however, but I can’t go against a Coventry team that have looked so strong seven games into the new campaign.

Price Boost - Haji Wright to score first @ 11/2

Torp has scored five goals for Coventry this term, and is their joint-top scorer along with Wright. The 3/1 on the midfielder to score anytime was going to be my initial pick, but then Betfred came along with a Price Boost that I can’t turn down.

Wright is in excellent form, and is certain to lead the line again. He was handed a small break as he was taken off after 70 minutes with the points wrapped up against Birmingham, and so I think he will be fresh and firing for this fixture. Only Anis Mehmeti has had more shots in the Championship this season than Wright (21) and I think he can find the net first at excellent odds.
