Alex Neil and Millwall were flying at the end of the season and only just missed out on the play-offs after a late surge. Millwall have finished in the top 10 of the Championship five times in the past eight seasons without ever cracking the top six, so is this the season the Lions finally make the breakthrough?

It’s looking good, and below you can find the Millwall Championship Odds, along with a season preview all about the Lions.

Millwall Championship Odds

  • Outright winners @ 33/1
  • Top two finish @ 14/1
  • Promotion @ 8/1
  • Top six finish @ 9/2
  • Relegation @ 8/1

Prediction: 7th

Neil is one of a handful of Championship managers to have achieved promotion to the top flight, having won the play-offs with Norwich City a decade ago. The Scot seems to be a perfect fit for Millwall, and has currently averaged a win ratio of 50% in his 26 matches in charge.

This seems to be a squad that is a good match for Neil with big centre-backs and physical forwards allowing his team to energetically and aggressively get results. Now he's made a few additions of his own, I’m really positive about this squad this season, and it feels as though they will go very close again in 2025/26.

Transfer business

In: Josh Coburn (£5m), Massimo Luongo and Max Crocombe (both free), Alfie Doughty and Zak Sturge (both undisclosed), Steven Benda (loan).

Out: Zian Flemming (£8m), Aaron Connolly, George Saville, George Honeyman, Murray Wallace, Liam Roberts (all free).

It’s rare to see Millwall splash out £5m on one player, but Neil and the board have decided that Josh Coburn’s loan spell was worth making permanent. He joins from Middlesbrough having scored five goals in 22 Championship games last term, and his manager will hope to get more out of him this time around.

I like Massimo Luongo on a free, while Alfie Doughty feels like a bit of a coup from Luton given the work he did in their promotion season and in the Premier League just over 12 months ago. His delivery will be important, but it has also been a refresh in terms of outgoings. Murray Walace, George Saville and George Honeyman all depart, giving Millwall a new feel this time around.

Key Player: Mihailo Ivanovic

An outsider for the Golden Boot, presuming Millwall can keep hold of him. Millwall’s games last term were tight, as is shown by the fact they only scored 47 goals in 46 matches - conceding 49. They will want to boost that ‘goals for’ column this season and Ivanovic will be a key factor in them doing just that.

He got 12 in 37 games last season and now he is set to be partnered with the unselfish Coburn, I think that duo could work wonders. Neil knows his team have to score more goals, and keeping hold of the Serbian who has attracted interest this summer is key. He won’t be fancied too many for the Golden Boot, but 15+ goals would mark a terrific campaign in the second tier.

Championship Outrights 2025-2026 - Top 6 Finish Milwall

Odds correct at time of publishing.

Prediction: 7th

This isn’t a groundbreaking prediction but Millwall are just so difficult to oppose this season. Neil knows what it takes to compete in this league, you will always back them to edge those tight encounters and now they have two top strikers that should cause problems.

Football Odds

I’m slightly concerned that they could lose Japhet Tanganga and/or Ivanovic before the window closes which would change things, but I’m going to stay positive on Millwall and back them to come awfully close to the play-offs again.

However, I think the points total for a top-six finish will be around 75 points this time around, and although the Lions can get close to that, ultimately I think they will just be short of their rivals. Again. It's a good time to be a Millwall fan though.
