Leeds United need to kick into gear if they are to secure the Championship title with eight games to go. That wasn’t something I thought we would be discussing after they beat both Sunderland and Sheffield United in back-to-back games, but here we are. Daniel Farke’s men sit level on points with the Blades at the top of the table and just two points clear of Burnley, so the pressure is well and truly on.

They host Swansea at 15:00 at Elland Road on Saturday and below you can find my Leeds vs Swansea predictions.

Leeds vs Swansea Betting Tips

  • Leeds to win to nil @ 8/11
  • Bet Builder - Leeds to win, Piroe and Gnonto to score, Cabango to get booked @ 14/1

Team News

Leeds United almost have a fully-fit squad to choose from, with Ethan Ampadu and Max Wober the only absentees. Ampadu is on his way back but Wober is out until the summer, while Patrick Bamford is close to getting back involved.

Farke has a big decision to make in the attacking third as Willy Gnonto came off the bench at QPR in place of Brenden Aaronson and there are now calls for him to start after an impressive second half display. Manor Solomon and Dan James should start out wide although Largie Ramazani is also pushing for a place in the XI.

The defensive unit should remain unchanged, with Illan Meslier starting behind Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Junior Firpo. They will be protected by Ao Tanaka and either Joe Rothwell or Ilia Gruev as Leeds look to get back on track.

Leeds vs Swansea Stats

  • Leeds have won 15 of their 19 home matches
  • Swansea have scored one goal in their last four
  • Ben Cabango has picked up eight yellow cards

Swansea are without Harry Darling, Kristian Pedersen and Myles Peart-Harris but all three could return in early April. Now Alan Sheehan has agreed to stay on until the end of the campaign we could see a bit more solidity from them, although I feel he could shake it up in midfield after a 2-0 defeat to Burnley before the break.

Sheehan will want to be more defensive away from home with Jay Fulton, Joe Allen and Oliver Cooper all potential options to come into the midfield. Lewis O’Brien and Goncalo Franco are clearly talented but at Elland Road, the manager may choose to be a little more conservative with Allen and Cooper slightly more combative.

Leeds vs Swansea Odds

Leeds are the short-price favourites to win this game at 2/9, giving them an implied win probability of 82%. A draw can be backed at 5/1 while Swansea are a massive 14/1 to pick up all three points, and become only the second team to beat Leeds at Elland Road this season.

Over 2.5 goals is also a short price at 8/11 which is a quirk given Leeds have one of the lowest success rates in the league at 34%. BTTS is 6/4 while Joel Piroe is the favourite to score first at 7/2.

Leeds to win to nil @ 8/11

Yeah, an obvious selection here but probably still worth backing. I know they’ve had a wobble but I’m still pretty sure that they will win the title this term. They are far superior to pretty much every team they face at Elland Road, and their 48 points from 19 league games has carried them within touching distance of the Premier League.

They aren’t quite there yet, but their home form should carry them close. I think they will return from the international break on top form and simply blow Swansea away. The Welsh outfit are still searching for their next identity, and look like they will have just about enough to scrape survival this term. They shouldn’t provide too much of a challenge for this talented Leeds outfit.

Bet Builder - Leeds to win, Piroe and Gnonto to score, Cabango to get booked @ 14/1

I’m expecting home domination from Leeds in this one, so let’s put together a quick Bet Builder to round off this preview. Leeds are going to win, while I will also back Piroe to find the net. The striker has scored 15 league goals this season and will have his eye on the Golden Boot with Norwich’s Borja Sainz just two goals ahead of him but having to share the limelight in East Anglia with Josh Sargent.

I’ll also back Gnonto to score given he has had an upturn in form and will be able to get at the Swansea defence from the number 10 position. Five goals and five assists this season aren’t the best numbers but he should add to them over the last eight games. Meanwhile, let’s also pick out a yellow card for Ben Cabango - Swansea’s most booked player this season. He’s got eight yellows already this term and is in for a very busy afternoon.
