Hull vs Coventry Prediction: Tigers to be tamed by league leaders

There's a key battle in the Championship promotion race when league leaders Coventry head for promotion hopefuls Hull on Monday night.

The Sky Blues have opened a nine-point lead at the top of the second-tier table and Frank Lampard’s men just need to keep their cool for the final six matches of the campaign. Hull are still in contention for an automatic uplift, but the Tigers are also facing pressure from the sides below them and the Humberside men will hope home advantage can see them to success. John Egan, Paddy McNair and Liam Millar could return to the starting line-up after starting from the bench against Oxford on Friday.

Manager Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed that keeper Ivor Pandur will return between the sticks after he was another player given a break following international duty.

John Lundstram may once again stand in for the injured Regan Slater in central midfield.

For the visitors Jack Rudoni and Haji Wright and should be restored to the standing line-up after returning from injury. Brandon Thomas-Asante is back in full training, while Joel Latibeaudiere is back after being rested against Derby.

Oliver Dovin and Miguel Angel Brau are out injured.

Coventry are 19/20 to take three points and move one step closer to promotion, while Hull are 11/4 and the draw is a 13/5 chance. Both teams to score can be backed at 4/6 and over 2.5 goals is available at 8/11.

Coventry are closing in on the Championship title, with the Sky Blues 11 points clear at the top of the table heading into this round of games.

Frank Lampard's side have won eight of their last nine league matches and they are fresh from Friday’s 3-2 win over Derby and there are no signs that Coventry will struggle to get over the finish line.

Hull have their own promotion ambitions and, while the Tigers are only four spots behind Coventry in the table, the gap is bigger than those positions suggest.

Jakirovic's men are putting up an expected goal difference of -19.16, compared to Coventry's +31.85 and those numbers give a clear indication of the quality of the two teams.

Hull have won only four of their last 12 matches and another disappointing result looks likely on Monday.

Haji Wright to score first @ 4/1

Haji Wright made his return from injury from the bench at Derby on Friday and the American goal machine looks ready to fire from the start on Monday night.

The 28-year-old has hit six goals in his last seven appearances for Coventry and the American has hit 16 second-tier goals this term.

Hull have kept only one clean sheet in their previous 11 matches and the 28-year-old is fancied to punish the Tigers by opening the scoring.
