Derby vs Charlton Prediction: Take the Addicks to win again

Derby County look to jump-start a faltering beginning to their Championship campaign on Tuesday, when they host high-flying Charlton Athletic at Pride Park (Sky Sports Football, 20:00).

Team News

John Eustace is without the services of at least four of his County squad, with midfielder Liam Thompson joining the injury list after missing the draw with Wrexham and will spend at least a month on the sidelines with a knee issue.

He joins Curtis Nelson, Rhian Brewster and Corey Blackett-Taylor in the treatment room and it would be no huge surprise if Eustace was to name an unchanged XI for Charlton.

Football Odds

The Addicks are in a similar position with a quarter of players unavailable for Nathan Jones. Josh Edwards picked up a knock in the win over Blackburn and will miss the next few games. He should be replaced by Wembley hero Macauley Gillesphey, who not only stepped in to Edwards shoes dilligently but also registered the vital first goal against Rovers.

Elsewhere, the impressive Isaac Olaofe could be in line for a start up front, following a string of encouraging substitute performances.

Derby vs Charlton Odds

Derby are winless at home, yet have been installed as the slight bookmakers favourites here at 13/8, giving them an implied win probability of 38%. Meanwhile, a Charlton side that has won their last two is one tick bigger at 15/8. The draw is a 2/1 shot.

Goals look to be in short shrift here, with under 2.5 priced at just 1/2 and BTTS no at 8/11. Despite being a doubt to start, Charlie Kelman is the joint favourite to open the scoring, with County's Carlton Morris, both installed at 5/1.

Charlton Draw No Bet @ 10/11

The showpiece Championship game on Tuesday looks a close one to call but I'm going with momentum and that's currently being carried by Charlton Athletic. Two wins on the spin have seen Jones' side rise up to the heady heights of seventh in the league and they looked very impressive indeed in their 3-0 win at the weekend.

For the home side, it's been an inconsistent start and while Eustace will have been encouraged by the vital point in north Wales, his team need to start picking up wins in front of the County faithful. They have picked up just one point at Pride Park and if they don't start well here, the atmosphere could turn relatively quickly.

Whilst I think this game will probably be decided by the odd goal, I'm tilting just in Charlton's favour and am heding my bets slightly with the draw no bet selection. If the game ends in a stalemate, the bet is void and we get our stake returned.

Charlton to win to nil @ 16/5

As I alluded to above, I think this could be a tight, nervy affair and I wouldn't be surprised to see Charlton win 1-0.

I like the odds of them to win to nil at 16/5. They have looked a tight ship at the back this season, conceding the joint fewest goals in the Championship with five.

Another win here would likely see them move into the playoff picture and send the Addicks back down south happy...
