Coventry vs West Brom Prediction: Can Sky Blues win nine out of 10?

Championship leaders Coventry City return to action on Saturday as they host West Brom (12:30, Sky Sport Main Event). The Sky Blues are absolutely flying, and secured a vital 1-0 win over Stoke City prior to the international break to extend their lead at the top to five points, while WBA beat Oxford United 2-1 last time out.

Team News
The international break came at a good time for Frank Lampard, and key man Jack Rudoni should return to the matchday squad for the first time in two months. He has missed nine games, and Coventry have won eight of them, so they’ve found a way to win without him but he certainly strengthens their ranks.
Haji Wright has been on international duty so Ellis Simms may get the nod ahead of him, while Ephron Mason-Clark suffered a concussion when scoring a late acrobatic winner against Stoke and will need to be assessed - although the two-week break should have been enough time for him to recover.
Brandon Thomas-Asante leads the scoring charts with 10 and should operate in the number 10 role again, with Rudoni likely to come off the bench. Liam Kitching is one yellow card away from a suspension, but will partner Bobby Thomas at centre-back.
Meanwhile, West Brom should be able to field a dangerous looking front four of Josh Maja, Isaac Price, Karlan Grant and Michael Johnston. They started in the 2-1 win over Oxford and Mason is likely to stick with a similar team given they ended a run of four games without a win against the U’s.
Ousmane Diakite has a big role to play in midfield alongside Alex Mowatt while Nat Phillips will start in the heart of defence alongside either Charlie Taylor or Chris Mepham. Against the league’s top scorers, they will need to bring their A-game to keep a clean sheet.
Coventry vs West Brom Predicted Lineups
- Coventry - Rushworth; Van Ewijk, Thomas, Kitching, Dasilva; Torp, Grimes; Sakamoto, Thomas-Asante, Mason-Clark; Wright
- West Brom - Griffiths, Gilchrist, Phillips, Mepham, Styles; Diakite, Mowatt; Grant, Price, Johnston; Maja.
Coventry are the favourites to win this game unsurprisingly, priced at 4/5 to take all three points. An away win can be backed at 7/2, while a draw is 13/5.
Over 2.5 goals has been a regular winner in Cov games and is 10/11, BTTS is 4/5 and Wright is the favourite to score first at 4/1.
Coventry vs West Brom Stats
- Coventry have won eight of their last nine games
- Coventry have lost just two league games at the CBS Arena under Frank Lampard
- Victor Torp has scored three goals from outside the box this season
Coventry to win @ 4/5
Let’s go pretty basic for this opening pick, and back the home side to win. Coventry have only lost two league matches at the CBS Arena under Frank Lampard, to Leeds United and Burnley - the 100-point teams from last campaign.
They’ve scored 40 goals in 15 matches, kept the most clean sheets in the league and all the underlying numbers look strong too. Meanwhile, West Brom have been unconvincing of late under Mason, and this looks like too big an ask against the Sky Blues. I think it's a decent price to back Lampard’s boys to make it nine wins out of 10.

Victor Torp scores direct from a free-kick @ 22/1
Victor Torp has scored six goals for the Sky Blues this season, three from inside the box and three from outside the box. One of those three was a direct free-kick, and his technique is simply superb.
I’ve seen many great free-kick takers down the years at Cov - it was of course where James Maddison broke through as a 16-year-old, but Torp can strike the ball as well as anyone. I think it is worth backing this longshot on Saturday lunchtime.
