Blackburn Rovers vs Portsmouth Prediction: Hosts to edge low-scoring encounter

Championship action on Wednesday evening (19:45 KO) comes from Ewood Park as Blackburn Rovers seek to end a torrid recent run in the league by taking care of a Portsmouth side battling to stay out of the relegation zone.

The home side are 8/11 favourites to get what would be a first Championship win in six attempts. The draw is priced at 13/5 and Portsmouth are 100/30 to land just their second away league win of the season.

Over 2.5 goals is 10/11, while Blackburn to win and both teams to score rates an 11/4 chance.

Team News

The home side are set to be without the services of Hayden Carter, Yuki Ohashi, Lewis Travis and Arnor Sigurdsson. Boss Eustace could welcome back Ryan Hedges and Amario Cozier-Duberry, who both missed the win at Middlesbrough with illness.

Dion Sanderson and Adam Forshaw have arrived at Ewood Park since the January window opened and could be among the squad here.

Pompey goalkeeper Jordan Archer picked up a knock during the FA Cup defeat to Wycombe and is unlikely to be involved, while Marlon Pack is suspended.

A lengthy injury list for the visiting side includes Mark O'Mahony, Kusini Yengi, Regan Poole, Conor Shaughnessy, Ibane Bowat and Jacob Farrell, while new arrival Isaac Hayden has signed on loan from Newcastle for the second half of the season.

Blackburn to win & under 3.5 goals @ 11/8

Blackburn's recent loss of form in the Championship has resulted in a drop outside the top six but Rovers can climb back into the playoff places with a win here.

Two points from the last 15 on offer is a poor return, considering Rovers had notched six straight wins from mid-November to mid-December, but they can at least point to having faced three of the current top four in their five-game winless run.

They drew with Leeds and Sunderland in that sequence before a 1-0 home loss in the Lancashire derby against Burnley.

Portsmouth have lost four of their last five in all competitions and have won just one of their 13 away games in the Championship. Their 30 goals conceded on their travels is also the most of any side in the division.

Blackburn have only scored five goals in their last eight at home and 11 of the last 12 at Ewood Park have featured under 3.5 goals with seven of the last nine featuring exactly one or two goals. The home side can grind out a much-needed victory.

Tyrhys Dolan to be carded @ 11/4

Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan is enjoying a fine season and has won lots of praise from boss Eustace for his contributions.

He's a direct attacker and should get plenty of chances to run at this Pompey defence. The 23-year-old is prone to bookings, however, and has more cautions (six) this season than goal contributions (five).

He's already served a one-game ban for accumulating bookings and is on track to surpass last season's tally of eight.
