Championship Top Goalscorer Odds: Latte Lath and Morris ones to watch

Last season we had a surprise winner of the Golden Boot in the Championship as Sammie Szmodics, playing for a poor Blackburn Rovers side, struck 27 times to steer his team clear of the drop. Now we enter the 2024/25 campaign, a whole new batch of strikers are hoping to be top of the scoring charts come May.
Below we have taken a look at the Championship Top Goalscorer Odds, and picked out a couple of fancied forwards.

Mateo Joseph @ 9/1
You might be slightly surprised to see Leeds’ 20-year-old forward at the top of this list, but there is good reason behind the selection. Leeds are the outright favourites to win the division this year, so it also makes sense that they will score a lot of goals. Also, based on reports and pre-season, Joseph could well take the starting striker spot this term.
“This is my season,” he said in a recent interview, and if that confidence translates to the pitch, we could see something special. However, he isn’t yet a guaranteed starter, so I’d look elsewhere.
Josh Sargent @ 11/1
When Norwich’s American superstar Josh Sargent came back from a long injury last season, he scored 16 goals in 28 league matches. That left him with the best goals-per-90 ratio in the league at 0.72, and if you translate that over a whole season, he will be right up there. However, his future is still uncertain with other clubs circling. Gabriel Sara, his chief provider, has also left the club. But Sargent is guaranteed goals at this level.
Carlton Morris @ 12/1
After scoring 11 Premier League goals last season, Luton Town’s chief penalty-taker is now in the Championship. He was a threat in the top flight and I expect that to continue here, with Luton clearly one of the strongest sides at this level. Morris is likely to remain at Kenilworth Road for the entire season, given he has spent most of his career cutting his teeth in the EFL, so I think he represents a very smart pick.
Joel Piroe @ 12/1
Given the amount of attacking options Leeds have, and the fact Piroe isn’t guaranteed to start, I’m not comfortable recommending him at this price. Clearly a talented player and top finisher, but he only managed 14 goals last term. I wouldn’t expect him to get more than 15 this season.
Emmanuel Latte Lath @ 12/1
Yes. Now we are talking. Emmanuel Latte Lath is my number one selection heading into this season. Not only are Middlesbrough looking like a more complete outfit heading into 2024/25, but Latte Lath is their first-choice striker. He notched an impressive 11 goals in the final 12 games of last campaign to finish on 16, and I believe he will take this into the new season. He’s a lethal finisher who should cause problems across the year, and I think 12/1 represents decent value at this stage.
Sammie Szmodics @ 16/1
Will lightning strike twice? Will Sammie Szmodics even be in the Championship? I think the answer to both of these questions is no - stay well clear.
Elijah Adebayo @ 16/1
Backing Luton’s other striker might not be the worst shout given he bagged 10 goals last season in the top flight. However, Morris is on penalties and they tend to share the goals out between them, so as a result I think he won’t quite be able to win the Golden Boot.
Ellis Simms @ 16/1
Another one on my radar. Basically, we are looking for guaranteed starters for teams that should feature in the top-six, who also showed good spells of goalscoring last term. Just like Latte-Lath, Simms ticks all three boxes. He took a while to find his feet but is now looking like a serious physical threat with an eye for goal. We saw what Mark Robins turned Viktor Gyokeres into, so could Simms show the same level of improvement? The Sky Blues could do with him bagging at least 20 this term.
Georginio Rutter @ 20/1
Another Leeds man. Played in the number 10 role last season and seems more likely to be used as a provider by Daniel Farke once again. With rotation ahead of him for the league favourites, I am lukewarm on Rutter.
Kieffer Moore @ 20/1
Potential. If Sheffield United end this window with a strong squad, and continue to make moves in the transfer window, Moore could have a spectacular season. He’s pretty much guaranteed to start for Chris Wilder, while the creative force of Callum O’Hare and Gustavo Hamer could provide him with plenty of chances. 20/1 could feel like a huge price come the end of August.
Jack Clarke @ 25/1
Two outsiders to finish. Jack Clarke has the potential to hit massive heights this season, having hit 15 goals last term for a side in disarray. Now this young squad has another year of experience to its name, they could put something pretty special together this term. With Regis Le Bris in charge, there are question marks, but there are no doubts surrounding Clarke. Always one to enjoy in this league.
Zan Celar @ 50/1
QPR’s new striker is our long shot for this market. The 25-year-old Slovenian international scored 40 goals in 95 league games for Lugano before his move to London and now he is ready to make the step up. His finishing statistics suggest he could be one of the best in the league given his shot placement, but we will have to wait and see if that transpires. Should start, and possibly worth a punt at these odds.
