Preston North End to beat Rotherham United

What a start to the season it has been for Preston North End. The Lilywhites have enjoyed their best start to a campaign since 1903 and picked up their sixth-straight win against Birmingham City in midweek. Preston were mostly outplayed but still found a way to win and grind out another three points, something which can carry a team far at this level.

Ryan Lowe’s side will be gunning for a seventh victory on the spin at Rotherham United this weekend and right now, it is very hard to bet against them. The Millers have won just once this season, an impressive victory over Norwich City, but other than that, Matt Taylor’s side have really struggled. Momentum is with Preston and this mesmerising run doesn’t appear to be stopping just yet.

Leicester City to beat Bristol City

Another team that has enjoyed a bright start in the second tier is Leicester City. Following their relegation from the Premier League, the Foxes immediately became the favourites to win the Championship title, and so far all is going well. Enzo Maresca’s style is being implemented quickly and Leicester picked up their sixth win of the campaign at Norwich City on Wednesday night.

Their squad is one of the strongest we have ever seen at this level and the players that they can afford to leave on the bench to come on and change games is staggering. Bristol City will be a test given they have lost just once so far, but Leicester have the quality to outgun every opponent they come up against.

Sunderland to beat Cardiff City

Last year’s play-off semi-finalists Sunderland appear to have found their rhythm after claiming their third consecutive victory at Blackburn Rovers in the week. Tony Mowbray has a young and exciting squad filled with quality at his disposal, and they are going to be there or thereabouts again this term.

Cardiff have had a stronger start than many would have foreseen, having already picked up three wins from their opening seven fixtures. The Bluebirds have already caused problems for some of the teams tipped to finish inside the top six but they have still been unable to come away from those matches with any points.

They will likely give Sunderland a run for their money but the Black Cats should have enough at home to pick up another three points.

Hull City to beat Stoke City

Hull City have been quite impressive in the first portion of 2023-24, with Liam Rosenior’s stock as a coach continuing to rise. The Tigers sit sixth in the table, winning three of their first seven matches and losing just once. They are the only side to defeat promotion favourites Leicester City thus far, so they are a side that cannot be underestimated.

They travel to face Stoke City on Sunday and head to the Potteries in far better form than that of their opponents. Stoke have had a disappointing and surprising start under Alex Neil, losing four games so far. The Potters have still managed to pick up two wins, however, but going on form right now, this feels set up for another impressive victory for the Tigers.
