Sporting

Sporting were humbled 3-0 last week in Norway, but then again, that's not the first time this season a far more famous team than Bodo have seen just what a good side this is and had a negative result against them.

What's somewhat worrying for Sporting is that they can have few complaints about the result. They may have had slightly more possession, but that was the only metric they were ahead on.

Another slight concern is they seem to be over-reliant on the goals of Luis Suárez. When he has an off game like he did last week, they've somewhat struggled for goals of late and can't even seem to create much. He'll have to have the game of his life for them to turn things around here.

The Portuguese Superliga was very kind in allowing Sporting the weekend off on the domestic front to focus on this game, but that's highly unlikely to be enough to turn things around.

Despite the 3-0 loss that was pretty much Sporting's best XI, with the exception of Pedro Goncalves, so his return to the team is likely to be the only change.

Bodo/Glimt

The fairytale involving this side doesn't seem to end, does it?

There are many lessons to be learnt when you look at how they go about things, including that recruitment on a low budget can work if you can find the right sort of players rather than just expensive ones with impressive CVs. In that respect, they're almost a case of 'moneyball' in practice.

But perhaps the most important lesson of all is that playing fearless football and showing no respect for the opposition's reputation (I mean that in the best possible way) is the way to go, and that you should play to your strengths, rather than the opposition's weaknesses, will go a long way.

Literally a long way, because they have one and a half feet in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

That teams have had to play on their artificial pitch is no excuse. These are some of the world's best players who have gone there, so they should be able to cope with a slightly different surface. Besides, the pitch was approved by UEFA, so it's a moot point anyway.

They weren't in action at the weekend, either.

Sporting vs Bodo/Glimt Predicted Lineups

  • Sporting: Silva, Araujo, Fresneda,Inacio, Diomande, Morita, Goncalves, Catamo, Trinaco,  Hjulmand, Suarez
  • Bodo/Glimt: Haikin, Sjøvold, Bjørtuft, Gundersen, Bjørkan, Evjen, Berg, Fet, Blomberg  Høgh, Hauge

Match Odds:

Sporting at 8/15? Blimey, that's short. It's 3/1 on Bodo and 4/1 the draw.

It's easy to think that Bodo will go to Lisbon, defend what they have, be happy to lose 1-0 or 2-1 or something similar to that, and still go through pretty comfortably.

But then again, that's what many thought would happen in their away match against Inter after taking a 3-1 lead into the second leg and…they went and won that 2-1 in the second leg, for good measure.

This is a team that is unbeaten in their last six in the Champions League, and that includes playing Inter twice and Man City. And the more Sporting attacks in search of those three goals, the more spaces will be left for Bodo to explore.

Take the 5/4 on a Bodo win or a draw.

Sporting vs Bodo/Glimt Stats

  • Bodo/Glimt have scored more goals (22) than Sporting (17) so far in the tournament.
  • JP Hauge has scored six times, which is more than any Sporting player.
  • Sporting have only committed 90 fouls so far in this competition. Juventus top the list at 158.
  • Bodo/Glimt (46.3%) have the second-best Shots on Target percentage. Sporting are tenth at 41.8%

To Score Anytime

Our bet on JP Hauge didn't work out last time, despite Bodo getting three.

But even if they lose the match and even if they are knocked out (which I seriously doubt) what I can't see happening is the Norwegians not scoring.

After all, they've done so in their last seven CL matches and we're not just talking one goal per match, here. It's 17 in those last seven games, incredible numbers.

So it's not the worst idea in the world to go with their top scorers in the competition to score anytime. We'll keep faith with Hauge (16/5), who has six in 11 games, and K. Hogh (7/4), who has five in 11, and scored against Sporting last week.

Goes without saying that one or the other scoring will net us a profit in that market.
