Europa league trophy scaled

A 3-1 victory in Norway last week has put Molde in control of their Europa League second-round qualifier with Silkeborg. Still, the tie is far from over ahead of Thursday's second leg in Denmark, which takes place at Jysk Park (18:15).

Team News

Pelle Mattsson was forced off midway through Silkeborg's 2-1 defeat at Aalborg on Sunday and has been ruled out of Thursday's return leg with Molde. The 22-year-old midfielder joins Alexander Madsen, Callum McCowatt, Fredrik Carlsen and Younes Bakiz on the injury list.

Like Mattsson, Molde's Kristoffer Haugen was substituted through injury on Sunday as his side lost 1-0 at Viking. The 30-year-old midfielder will be forced to watch from the sidelines on Thursday alongside fellow injury victims Fredrik Gulbrandsen and Veton Berisha.

Silkeborg are 7/5 to triumph in regulation time on Thursday, giving them an implied win probability of 41.7%, while Molde are the same price - 7/5 - to win inside 90 minutes. A draw, which would be enough for the Norwegians to advance, is available at 11/4.

Both teams to score is 4/7 and over 2.5 total goals is 4/6.

It took Molde less than two minutes to score in last week's first leg as Markus Kaasa put the Norwegians ahead. Alexander Lind levelled for the visitors in the 35th minute but Magnus Eikrem struck either side of the interval to put the Eliteserien side 3-1 ahead in this tie.

Molde no longer have home advantage, however, and Silkeborg will believe that they can utilise their crowd to unsettle them on Thursday. Erling Moe's side have failed to score in their last two away outings, being held to a goalless draw at Fredrikstad on July 13 before losing 1-0 at Viking last weekend.

Meanwhile, Silkeborg opened up their Superliga campaign with a 1-0 win at home against Sonderjyske on July 21, and know that they need to win by at least two goals on Thursday to advance to the Europa League third qualifying round.

The Danes managed to find the net in Norway and should be able to do so again this week but I'm not sure they will be able to prevent Molde, who have struck 32 times across 17 Eliteserien matches this term, from scoring themselves.

A draw or a one-goal defeat would send Molde through to the next round, and I think one of those two results is likely tomorrow.

Alexander Lind Anytime Scorer @ 9/5

Silkeborg's number nine was on the scoresheet at the Aker Stadion last Thursday and will be his side's main hope in this week's second leg.

The 22-year-old was Silkeborg's top scorer in the Superliga last season with 10 goals and has taken on an even more prominent role this term following the departure of nine-goal forward Stefan Teitur Thordarson, who left in the summer for EFL Championship side Preston North End.

Lind got the better of Molde's defence last week and will fancy his chances of scoring again with Silkeborg sure to create plenty of chances in their search for the two goals they need to at least force extra-time on Thursday.
