Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Prediction: Ref to point to the spot at 6/4

I know Amazon Prime Video got the first pick of Tuesday's semi-final but they've selected by far the weaker game with a genuine heavyweight clash left for the other broadcaster. TNT Sports 1 is the channel to tune into for this one if you are in the UK, with kick-off set for 20:00.
Our Spanish-based football expert got the assignment for this one and he thinks the home side an avoid defeat but also the referee will point to the spot. This is one of two Champions League matches on Tuesday evening, you can read our Sporting vs Arsenal Predictions elsewhere on site...

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich clash in a heavyweight Champions League quarter-final. History would suggest that the victors over two legs may be the team to beat heading into the last four of this competition.
Los Blancos have won each of the last four ties between the clubs. On each occasion they went on to be crowned European champions, most recently in 2024 when 88th and 91st-minute goals from Joselu broke Bavarian hearts in the semi-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.
You have to go back to the same stage of the 2011/12 season for the last time Bayern got the better of Real Madrid over two legs. Finally seeing off the Spanish giants again would be a real sign that Vincent Kompany's class of 2026 are ready to go all the way as the Bundesliga leaders target their seventh European Cup.
They'll be happy to have the second leg at the Allianz Arena, as opposed to the Bernabéu, where so many visiting teams have crumbled in this competition.
The most recent of those was Manchester City, who went into their round-of-16 showdown as clear favourites against an underperforming Real Madrid. However, Fede Valverde inspired a 3-0 first-leg victory for Álvaro Arbeloa's side, who went on to cruise through 5-1 on aggregate.
That was part of a five-game winning streak in all competitions for the 15-time European champions heading into the international break. They shrugged off a number of injuries to play some of their best football of the campaign, with a 3-2 derby win over Atlético in their final outing in March suggesting Real Madrid were firmly back in title contention.
With momentum building, there was renewed hope about what Los Blancos could achieve this season, but much of that evaporated in 90 minutes at Mallorca on Saturday afternoon. With Kylian Mbappé returning to make his first start since a 2-1 defeat at Osasuna in February, a lethargic display ended in another 2-1 loss on the road in La Liga, as Barcelona opened up a seven-point cushion at the top.
In the blink of an eye, the pressure is firmly back on the shoulders of Arbeloa, whose hopes of remaining in the job beyond the summer may depend on victory in this tie. That won't be easy against arguably the most impressive team in Europe so far this season.
While Bayern Munich are always expected to win the Bundesliga, they've been particularly dominant this term, losing just once in 28 league matches. Kompany's rotated side were trailing 2-0 at Freiburg on Saturday heading into the final 10 minutes, but staged a remarkable late comeback, with 18-year-old Lennart Karl sealing a 3-2 win in the 99th minute.
That was their 100th goal of the season in the German top flight. With Luis Díaz, Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise operating behind Harry Kane, Bayern have been an unstoppable attacking force.
In Europe, it has been a similar story. They have rattled in 32 goals in their 10 Champions League matches, nine of which have ended in victory. Bayern finished second behind Arsenal in the league phase, before demolishing Atalanta 10-2 on aggregate in the round-of-16.
Team News:
Arbeloa is expected to recall Vinícius Júnior up front to partner Mbappé, after the Brazilian was left on the bench as a precaution in Palma. Jude Bellingham and Éder Militão also featured in the second half of that game, but may be held back again having both only just returned from lengthy injury lay-offs.
Thibaut Courtois is the most notable absentee from a home perspective. Andriy Lunin will start in goal, as was the case when these clubs last met two years ago. Rodrygo is also sidelined due to a serious knee problem.
Bayern Munich are sweating over the fitness of Kane. The England striker played no part at Freiburg, but has trained since then. The visitors are giving little away about whether he'll be ready to start at the Bernabéu.
Otherwise, there are no major injury concerns for Kompany. The Belgian is set to recall Olise and Dayot Upamecano, after the duo only made the bench on Saturday.
Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Predicted Lineups
- Real Madrid: Lunin, Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Huijsen, Carreras, Valverde, Tchouameni, Pitarch, Guler, Mbappe, Vinicius Jr.
- Bayern Munich: Neuer, Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Laimer, Kimmich, Goretzka, Olise, Gnabry, Diaz, Kane
Match Odds:
Bayern Munich are the 23/20 favourites to win the first leg. You can back Real Madrid at 2/1, while the Draw is on offer at 3/1.
Over 3.5 goals is priced at 6/5, while you can back the hosts to score over 1.5 goals at 1/1. Los Blancos are also given a 9/10 chance of winning either half.
If you like the look of the visitors, Bayern are priced at 13/8 to win a game with over 2.5 goals. You can back Kompany's men to take control of the tie by winning both halves at 5/1, while they're on offer at 6/4 to score in both halves.
Assuming Kane is passed fit, this tie could turn into a tale of two strikers, with the Englishman given a 7/2 chance of scoring first in the first leg, while he's available at 19/20 to score anytime.
Despite scoring 13 goals in nine Champions League appearances this term, there is still pressure on Mbappé heading into this match, after his return coincided with a much worse team display than most of those during his absence. The 27-year-old is priced at 10/3 to score first here, while he's on offer at 9/10 to score anytime.
Alternative options in the Anytime Goalscorer market include Díaz at 7/4, Vinícius at 2/1 and Olise at 23/10.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Stats
- Kylian Mbappe (13) and Harry Kane (10) have scored more goals than anyone else in the Champions League. Anthony Gordon also has 10.
- Michael Olise (5) is the joint-highest assist maker in the tournament.
- Nicholas Jackson (2.97) has the most shots per 90 minutes in the Champions League.
- Anrelien Tchouameni (24) has more interceptions than anyone else.
Bet 1 - Real Madrid to win or draw & Both teams to score @ 5/4
This match will divide opinion amongst punters. While Bayern Munich may be the superior side, you can never write Real Madrid off at home in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The two key players in their recent revival have been Valverde and Vinícius. Neither started the weekend defeat to Mallorca, and the return of those two alone should spark much more life into this side.
Arbeloa is likely to approach the game in a similar fashion to the first leg of the Manchester City tie, and Los Blancos have more than enough individual quality to launch some fast breaks and cause problems for the Bayern defence.
Many of the visiting players were part of the side that collapsed in the closing moments on this ground in 2024, and there will be some mental demons. There are also some defensive flaws that Madrid will look to exploit, and both teams have scored in eight of Bayern's 10 Champions League matches this term.
Given that, I'm backing Real Madrid to win or draw and Both teams to score at 5/4.
Bet 2 - Penalty to be awarded @ 6/4
This could develop into an exciting end-to-end contest, with Bayern a naturally attack-minded outfit, while the first leg is clearly Real Madrid's best chance of putting themselves in a position to advance.
Both teams have some rapid attacking players, who are dangerous when running with the ball. With Mbappé and Vinícius both tough to defend against, Real Madrid have already won 20 penalties this season across all competitions.
At the other end, the potential battle between Díaz and his ex-Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold is one subplot to keep an eye on, while Olise and Gnabry will also ensure it's a difficult night for the home backline.
Given that, I can see value in backing there to be a penalty awarded in this match at odds of 6/4.
