Match Preview:

Juventus replaced Igor Tudor with the highly experienced Luciano Spalletti in midweek and immediately got the sort of change in results they were after, beating mid-table Cremonese 2-1 away from home.

Cremonese's late goal was scored by Jamie Vardy, but by that stage, Juve were 2-0 up, in full control, and with far more shots than their opponents.

There are some good players here - Teun Koopmeiners, Manuel Locatelli and Dusan Vlahovic to name but three - this is Juventus after all, and just some tweaks to the system, picking the right players in the right positions and some more confidence in the side can see them return to being Serie A title contenders, at the least.

They have plenty of work to do in the Champions League, though. Three matches have yielded just two draws and a loss, and they're currently in 25th, so outside the Playoff places.

Bremer, Juan Cabal and Edon Zhegrova all miss out with injury.

Sporting

As per usual with a Champions League game coming up, Sporting played their domestic match on Friday night, beating Alverca 2-0 to remain in second spot, tied on points with Porto and just one ahead of Benfica.

They've scored an impressive 25 goals in just 10 domestic games and conceded just five, so look well-organised at both ends of the pitch.

They come into this match in a better position than Juve in the CL table. They're currently in 12th with two wins and a defeat, and that against the very tricky Napoli, going down 2-1 in southern Italy. But wins against Marseille and Kairat see them in decent health.

Speaking of health, only Nuno Santos and Daniel Braganca are the only unavailable players so that's a boost for Luis Borges.

Juventus vs Sporting Predicted Lineups

  • Juventus: Di Gregorio, Gatti, Koopmeiners, Kalulu, Locatelli, Kostic, Thuram, McKennie, Conceicao/Cambiasso, Vlahovic, Openda.
  • Sporting: Virginia, Fresneda, Dimonade, Inacio, Araujo, Hjulmand, Catamo/Morita, Quenda, Trincao, Goncalves, Suarez.

Match Winner Odds / Double Chance

Juventus are 9/10 to win here (52%) with the draw 12/5 (29%) and Sporting 13/5, or 27.8% if you prefer.

These two have played each other four times over the years, twice in 2017 and twice in 2023.

Juve have won both their home matches - 1-0 and 2-1 - while the two in Portugal ended in 1-1 draws.

Despite that 2-2 record in home games against the Lions, the price on Juve looks short.

The latter have started their domestic campaign much better, albeit in an easier league, have also started this CL campaign better, and have the huge advantage of stability courtesy of a manager in charge for over a year who has had excellent results. Juve don't.

There's always a short-term boost when a new manager comes in and Juve have already benefited from that at Cremonese but even at home this time, this will present a much harder challenge.

There are many clever ways to try to oppose Juve but the simplest and best on this occasion is to take Sporting or draw on the double chance market at 5/6.

Juventus vs Sporting Stats

  • Neither side are great domestic for BTTS - with 50% and 40% records respectively.
  • They have faced-off before in the Champions League - with Juve winning at home and drawing in Portugal back in 2017.
  • Only Juve's 1-0 defeat at Real Madrid stops a 100% record for Over 2.5 Goals in Champions League matches these sides have played this season.
  • Sporting have two wins from three whereas Juve are yet to record a victory - with two draws their only points.

Most Corners

Sporting have so far had 13 corners in their favour in the Champions League, Juve are just one ahead with 14.

Juve won the corners battle in just one of their three matches, and Sporting won it in two.

So not only are things very tight between these two when it comes to corners but there's always a certain amount of randomness when it comes to corners anyway. The side winning the match, or the stronger side on paper at least, doesn't necessarily always get more corners.

Add to that the fact that we expect this game to be tighter than the match odds suggest and Sporting are available to back at 2/1 to get more corners. That looks an obvious choice, with the most important reason being the price.
