Team News
Feyenoord have seen several key players depart this summer, including Antoni Milambo (Brentford), David Hancko (Atletico Madrid), and, more recently, Igor Paixao (Olympique Marseille).
Sem Steijn (FC Twente), Goncalo Borges (FC Porto) and Casper Tengstedt (Benfica), amongst others, have moved the other way, though, as Van Persie gears up for his first full season in charge of Feyenoord, having joined from Heerenveen in February.
The Dutchman's new signings could all be in action on Wednesday, as could captain Quinten Timber, who is yet to play competitively under Van Persie after suffering a knee injury against AC Milan 11 days before his new manager's arrival.
However, with doubts over the fitness of Justin Bijlow, Van Persie has confirmed that Timon Wellenreuther will start between the sticks.
Thomas Beelen, Gijs Smal and Gernot Trauner (all unspecified) could all miss out, too, with all three left out of last Saturday's 4-0 friendly victory over VFL Wolfsburg.
Feyenoord vs Fenerbahce Stats
- Jhon Duran (FEN) scored three goals in seven UCL apps last season
- Feyenoord won the corner count in their first three 2024/25 UCL home games
- Fenerbahce lost the corner count in all six UEL away matches last season
Fenerbahce have been busy in the transfer market, too, signing full-backs Archie Brown (Gent) and Nelson Semedo (Wolves), and bringing in Colombian striker Jhon Duran (Al-Nassr) on loan. The Istanbul club have also turned the loans of Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina) and Milan Skriniar (Paris Saint-Germain) into permanent deals.
Cengiz Under has returned from his loan spell in the USA with Los Angeles FC, but appears to be surplus to requirements under Mourinho, as are Lincoln, Miha Zajc, Emre Mor and the injured Rodrigo Becao (knee), so don't expect to see any of those five line up in Rotterdam this week.
Anderson Talisca and Mert Hakan Yandas (both unspecified) are in Fenerbahce's treatment room, too, and won't play a part in proceedings on Wednesday.
Feyenoord beat Bayern Munich (3-0) and AC Milan (1-0) at De Kuip last season, and the Eredivisie side are 11/10 to triumph on home soil against Fenerbahce, who are 2/1, or a 33.3% chance, to take a lead back to Turkey next week.
The draw is priced at 12/5, both teams to score at 8/15, and over 2.5 total goals at 8/13.
Three Feyenoord players, Steijn, Tengstedt and Ayase Ueda, and one forward from Fenerbahce, Youssef En-Nesyri, head the anytime goalscorer market at 13/8, with Duran available at 15/8.
Anytime Goalscorer - Jhon Duran (FEN) @ 15/8
It's been a whirlwind 12 months for Duran, who started last season at Aston Villa, scoring 12 goals in 29 appearances, just seven of which were as a starter.
The Colombian international was lured away from Birmingham in January by Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, but despite netting 12 times in 18 outings for the Riyadh club, he failed to settle in Saudi Arabia and left on loan in July for Fenerbahce.
The 21-year-old made an immediate impression with the Yellow Canaries, bagging a brace off the bench in a 4-0 friendly win against Al-Ittihad, while he was handed his first start under Mourinho in their last pre-season fixture, a 1-0 victory over Lazio last Wednesday.
It will be interesting to see whether Duran, or last season's top scorer, En-Nesyri, starts up top in Rotterdam, but regardless, as long as Duran steps on the pitch, he will be a threat to Feyenoord's goal.
Duran only made one start in Villa's 2024/25 Champions League campaign, but made the most of his opportunity against Bologna, scoring his side's second and final goal in a 2-0 win, and he was on target off the bench against Bayern and RB Leipzig, too.
Feyenoord haven't been convincing in pre-season, keeping just one clean sheet in six friendlies, three of which they lost, and while we shouldn't read too much into these preparation games, it's fair to suggest that Van Persie's side aren't in tip-top shape defensively, and can be exploited by Fenerbahce in this first leg.
I don't want to call a result either way here, but I believe both teams can get on the scoresheet, and at 15/8, Duran provides a little value in the anytime goalscorer market.

Most Corners - Feyenoord @ 5/6
Feyenoord are at home on Wednesday and, as such, will be expected to be the team showing the most attacking intent.
They took the most corners in their first three European home games last season against Bayer Leverkusen, Red Bull Salzburg and Sparta Prague before their run ended against Bayern, who they beat 3-0 at De Kuip after taking a 2-0 lead into the interval.
Fenerbahce, meanwhile, lost the corner count in all six of their Uefa Europa League away matches in 2024/25, including at Eredivisie outfit FC Twente, and will likely be doing most of the defending in the Netherlands again.
