Brest vs leverkusen

Having shaken up German football by winning the Bundesliga last season, Bayer Leverkusen have made a perfect start to life back in the Champions League as they prepare to take on Brest at the Stade de Roudourou on Wednesday evening (kick-off 17:45).

Winning their opening two games against Feyenoord and AC Milan, Xabi Alonso’s side next face a Brest outfit that have been the surprise package in the Champions League so far this term. While the Ligue 1 outfit have won both of their first two games against Sturm Graz and Salzburg, this next match against the reigning German champions is a step up for manager Eric Roy and his side.

Team News

Starting with Brest, forward Abdallah Sima missed out on Saturday’s derby against Rennes and his hamstring issue could force him to miss Wednesday’s game.

Massadio Haidara is set to return after his domestic suspension, but Julien Le Cardinal is a doubt after pulling up in the warm-up at the weekend.

Bradley Locko remains a long-term absentee with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

As for Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz had suffered an ankle issue while on international duty with Germany, but came off the bench to feature against Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend.

Coming through unscathed against Frankfurt, Wirtz is set for a starting role on Wednesday, while Alonso has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to Guingamp.

Brest are 11/2 to claim the three points, while Bayer Leverkusen are available at 4/9 to head back to Germany with the victory.

A draw on the night is currently 18/5, while Leverkusen to score in both halves is available at 21/20.

Bayer Leverkusen to win and both teams to score @ 9/5

Leverkusen are in good form heading into this game, as they are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions.

Four of their last five matches have seen both teams get on the scoresheet so Brest might well be able to get on the scoresheet as they did against Sturm Graz and Salzburg.

However, Leverkusen impressed in their wins over Feyenoord and AC Milan and look like they have the firepower to pull off the win at the Stade de Roudourou and go another step closer to reaching the Champions League knockout stages.

Florian Wirtz anytime goalscorer @ 2/1

Set for a starting role after his recent ankle injury, Wirtz will be looking to add to the brace of goals he scored in his Champions League debut against Feyenoord.

Witz became the first German to score twice on his debut in this competition, while he has also scored four goals in the Bundesliga this season in seven appearances.

The 21-year-old is one of the rising stars of the game and he’s worth considering at 2/1 to add to his goal tally on Wednesday.
