Bayer Leverkusen vs Newcastle Prediction: Gordon good for another Champions League goal

Bayer Leverkusen made a poor start to the league phase of the 2025/26 Uefa Champions League, drawing their first two games and losing the third, but the Bundesliga side made great strides in November, beating Benfica 1-0 in Portugal and Manchester City 2-0 in England. Next up for Die Werkself is a home game against Newcastle United, who are a point better off in the standings, having won three and lost two of their first five matches.
Below are my Bayer Leverkusen vs Newcastle predictions, supported by all the latest team news and match odds, ahead of Wednesday's meeting at the BayArena (20:00 GMT, TNT Sports 3).

Team News
Ezequiel Fernandez (knee), Axel Tape (hamstring), Exequiel Palacios (groin) and Lucas Vazquez (muscle) are all set to sit out Wednesday's game for Bayer Leverkusen, whose head coach, Kasper Hjulmand, will be pondering changes to his starting XI following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at FC Augsburg.
Hjulmand's opposite number, Eddie Howe, will be without Nick Pope (muscle), Sven Botman (back), Emil Krafth (knee), Kieran Trippier (hamstring) and Will Osula (ankle) for the trip to Germany.
After recovering from injury, Yoana Wissa made his Newcastle bow in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Burnley, and on Wednesday, he could make his Champions League debut, but if he is to do so, it's likely to be from the bench.
Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Lewis Hall and Harvey Barnes could all come back into Howe's starting XI, with Fabian Schar, Jacob Ramsey, Joe Willock and Anthony Elanga all in danger of dropping down to the bench.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Newcastle Odds
Leverkusen are 2/1 to secure all three points on Wednesday, implying a 33.3% probability of success, with Newcastle favourites at 13/10 (43.5%), and the draw priced at 13/5.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Newcastle Stats
- BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals has landed in 13 NEW games this season, including their last six (2/5 in UCL)
- It's been a winning selection 10 times for B04 (2/5 in UCL)
- Gordon (NEW) has four goals in five UCL apps this term
Both Teams To Score and Total Goals Over/Under +2.5 - Yes & Over 2.5 @ 10/11
This has been a winning selection in 13 of Newcastle's 22 games this season, including their last six, and in two of their five Champions League contests.
It's been a winning bet 10 times for Leverkusen, landing in two of their Champions League matches, too.
Leverkusen have only blanked twice this season, while Newcastle have only failed to score in one more game (three), with AFC Bournemouth, in a goalless draw on September 21, the last team to keep the Magpies out.
So, I'm pretty confident that both sides can get on the scoresheet in Leverkusen, and I don't think either will settle for a stalemate, so I'm expecting at least three strikes, too.

Anytime Goalscorer - Anthony Gordon (NEW) @ 23/10
Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon isn't guaranteed to start on Wednesday, having begun back-to-back matches on the bench before getting the nod from the off last Saturday.
However, I think he may start again in Leverkusen, and even if he doesn't, he will be a big threat off the bench in the second half.
The 24-year-old has struggled to score in the Premier League this season, failing to find the net in his first eight appearances before scoring from the spot against Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley last week.
It's been a different story in the Champions League, though, as the England international has struck four times in five games.
Gordon grabbed his first in a 2-1 defeat to FC Barcelona on September 18 before bagging a brace in a 4-0 win at Union Saint-Gilloise on October 1 and opening the scoring in a 3-0 victory over Benfica 20 days later.
It looks like Gordon has assumed penalty-kick duties, too, which makes him an even more attractive option in the Anytime Goalscorer market, so at 23/10, I'm happy to back him to notch on Wednesday.
