Atalanta vs Slavia Prague Prediction: Another unhappy Italian trip for Czech champions

After two league phase matches in the 2025/26 Uefa Champions League, Slavia Prague remain winless (D1, L1). In gameweek three on Wednesday (20:00 BST, TNT Sports 8), the Czechs face a tough test in Bergamo, Italy, against Atalanta, who opened up their campaign with a 4-0 defeat away to reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, before beating Club Brugge 2-1 at home last time out in the competition.

Sead Kolasinac and Mitchel Bakker (both knee) are out for Atalanta, who welcomed Giorgio Scalvini, Nicola Zalewski and Gianluca Scamacca back to their squad for Sunday's goalless draw with Lazio in Serie A.

Marten de Roon, Nikola Krstovic and Lazar Samardzic are among those who may come into Ivan Juric's thinking for Wednesday's starting XI.

Atalanta have only lost one of their nine games this season, and that was away to the reigning European champions PSG.

La Dea may have only won three matches, drawing the other five, but their latest three stalemates have been against solid opposition, with Juventus (1-1), Como (1-1) and Lazio (0-0) all finishing in the top half of the 2024/25 Serie A table.

Their first European home game of the 205/26 campaign ended in a 2-1 win against Club Brugge, who thrashed last season's third-place side in Ligue 1 (France), AS Monaco, 4-1 in their opening league phase match.

Today's Football Fixtures

Slavia, meanwhile, have picked up just a point from two league phase contests so far, and are winless in their last three in all competitions.

Jindrich Trpisovsky's side lost 3-0 in Italy on September 30, suffering a defeat to Inter, and have drawn both Czech First League games this month against Sparta Prague (1-1) and Zlin (0-0).

One goal across their last three matches is a shoddy return, even if the first two were away from home, and they may find it difficult to breach an Atalanta back line that has kept two clean sheets in their last five, conceding just three goals.

At Gewiss Stadium this season, La Dea haven't let more than one goal in during a single game, and last time out there, on Sunday, they shut out Lazio completely.

Seven of Atalanta's nine games this term have ended in under 3.5 goals, including their last two wins, so I'm happy to back them to triumph on Wednesday in a low-scoring encounter.

Player to Receive a Card - Christos Zafeiris (SLP) @ 11/4

I backed Slavia midfielder Christos Zafeiris to receive a card in his side's opening league phase game against Bodo/Glimt, and while he hasn't been booked for the reigning Czech First League champions since that suggestion on September 18, it's fair to say that he is pushing his luck.

The 22-year-old committed two fouls in that draw with Glimt and doubled that number in defeat to Inter, meaning he is averaging three fouls per game in the league phase of the Champions League. He's made 11 fouls across his last five starts for Slavia in all competitions, and was booked in both of Greece's Uefa World Cup qualifiers this month against Scotland and Denmark, which both ended in a 3-1 defeat.

Zafeiris averaged 1.1 and 2.1 fouls per game, respectively, in last season's Czech First League and Uefa Europa League. He was shown four yellows in 30 domestic league appearances, and three in eight second-tier European outings, and earned his first caution this term in July's 2-0 win at Bohemians.
