The Scottish League Cup second-round fixtures continue on Sunday as Celtic join the party when hosting Hibs in a mouth-watering Glasgow vs Edinburgh match-up.
Brendan Rodgers’ side failed to win this trophy last season but will fancy their chances of brushing past an out-of-form Hibs to keep their cup dreams alive. The Premiership and Scottish Cup holders have started the season in style and are favourites for another convincing home win.
Hibs make the daunting trip to Celtic Park following a dreadful start to the Premiership season with the Easter Road side joint bottom of the league. Hibs are one of only two teams yet to pick up a point in their opening two games, meaning they are off the bottom on goal difference only. Will the League Cup spark a revival for David Gray’s men? Serious improvement is required if they are to shock the Celts.
Celtic prepare for this game with confidence growing in the ranks following an impressive pre-season and faultless start to the 2024/25 Scottish football programme. The Hoops aren’t yet at full fitness and firing on all cylinders, but they are moving in the right direction and fast.
Celtic have played twice this month and collected a pair of wins, hammering Kilmarnock 4-0 at this venue before breezing to a 2-0 victory over Sunday’s opponents at Easter Road seven days ago. The home win is available at 1/9 with Betfred.
Hibs did as expected when winning League Cup Group C with three wins and a defeat, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two.
Gray’s side finished the group stage of this competition as one of the highest scorers but couldn’t carry that form into the Premiership. The visitors opened with a 3-0 defeat in Paisley against St Mirren before suffering a 2-0 home loss against Celtic in the capital. An away win is 16/1, or you can back the draw at 15/2.
Celtic -1 handicap @ 2/5
Our first pick at Parkhead is Celtic to win -1 goal on the handicap. There’s enough on offer to back our pick as a single or add it to your weekend multiples to target a nice payout.
Following Celts on the handicap would’ve earned you a profit in each of their previous two games played this season, and we expect that to stretch to a treble on Sunday. The locals will be energetic in attack and assured in defence to pile pressure on their opponents who are in poor form.
Looking through past meetings of these teams, we see Celtic won 2-0 at Easter Road last week, and backing them -1 goal would’ve landed you a winner in two of the previous three.
Hibs also lost by more than one goal in their trip to Paisley, and followers should get a run for their money. Trust the home win and back them to get the job done in style.
Celtic 2-0 @ 5/1
Sticking with our pick on Celtic to win comfortably, we’re backing a 2-0 home win in the correct score market at great odds. Backing 2-0 would’ve returned a profit last week at Easter Road, and the Bhoys scored a couple of goals in each of their last two games against the Hibees. A third game on the bounce gets our attention.
With Celtic in great shape and scoring goals for fun so far this month and Hibs toiling on the back of two defeats, all the signs point to a home victory. Follow our thinking and back Celtic 2-0, then sit back and enjoy what should be a fascinating League Cup fixture in Glasgow.
