La Liga returns this weekend with a Saturday night offering as Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid visit relegation-threatened Celta Vigo, with kick-off at 20:00. Below I take a look at the match and pick out a couple of betting picks.

Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid Tips:

  • Atletico Madrid to win @ 23/20
  • Alvaro Morata to score first @ 4/1

Team News

Simeone is likely to stick with the 3-5-2 formation that has served him well so far this season. Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann have struck up a positive partnership at the top end of the field, and Atleti have won six of their eight league matches so far. Still, Atleti have a whole host of injuries to contend with, as Caglar Soyuncu, Thomas Lemar, Vitolo, Pablo Barrios and Jose Gimenez all remain out.

Match Odds

Celta Vigo are 12/5 to win this match at home, while a draw can be backed at 23/10. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are 23/20 to win this one.

Atletico Madrid to win @ 23/20

Atleti have been excellent this season, and are up to fourth in the table. They’ve only lost once in the league so far, and look like they could compete for the title again. Their star quality comes in the attacking areas, where Griezmann and Morata continue to torment defences. Aleti have scored 20 goals in eight matches and come up against a Celta Vigo side lacking both quality and confidence.

The home side, by contrast, have won just one of their nine matches so far and sit in the relegation zone. They’ve been on the wrong end of narrow defeats to Real Madrid and Barcelona and although they should climb out of the bottom three soon, it is unlikely to happen against another elite team. Atleti have won their last five matches in all competitions and should be able to make it six here.

Alvaro Morata to score first @ 4/1

Griezmann is the talented and flamboyant creator in this side, but is has been Alvaro Morata who has taken on the responsibility of scoring goals thus far. He’s top scored for Atleti with five La Liga goals in seven appearances and scored again over the international break against Scotland.

No longer the figure of fun he was in England at Chelsea, the Spaniard has proven himself to be one of the finest strikers in Europe. Now at a club that loves him, he is proving his worth. He’s 6/4 to score anytime in a match Atletico Madrid should win, but I like the look of the 4/1 on him to find the net first.
