Too early for a relegation six-pointer? Never. Two of La Liga’s strugglers meet on Thursday night as Celta Vigo host Alaves. Both sides are currently in the bottom five and have not started the season in good form, however, we have looked at the betting market to try and find some value for this key clash.
Under 2.5 goals
This game puts together two sides that on the face of it, aren’t very good this season. Celta Vigo are yet to score a goal at home, losing three out of three so far, while Alaves are yet to score a goal on the road, also losing three from three. Although the outcome may be up for grabs, what we can predict is that this will be a match lacking in both quality and goals.
Celta Vigo are yet to start firing at home and their fans will be desperate to see an improved performance, but so far the likes of Iago Aspas are yet to fire this term. Meanwhile, Alaves in truth don’t look like they have enough quality this season. They’ve only scored five goals in six matches so far and will find life tough on the road again.
Celta Vigo 1-0 Alaves
Picking out a low-scoring correct result seems like the way to find some genuine value here. We have established that Alaves are poor on the road, and that Celta Vigo are unlikely to blow a team away, but the home side do look the stronger on paper. Although they have only won once so far this term, they only lost 3-2 to Barcelona last time out, while they were also only beaten by Real Madrid 1-0 on home soil a couple of weeks ago.
What we can establish from this is that Celta are a competitive outfit and should be able to escape the relegation zone. However, they will need to start winning football matches, and that has to start now. In what is likely to be a tight and nervy encounter, the home side can break their home hoodoo and secure a vital three points. Just.
