Wolves wolverhampton molineux scaled

Wolverhampton Wanderers are in need of a miracle to turn their Premier League fortunes around but they are still going in the Carabao Cup as they entertain Chelsea at Molineux in the fourth round (19:45, Sky Sports+).

The Blues head here looking for a response after losing 2-1 at home to Sunderland in the league on Saturday. Below you will find my Wolves vs Chelsea predictions, aided by the latest team news and match odds.

Wolves vs Chelsea Betting Tips

  • Chelsea and Both Teams To Score - Yes @ 2/1
  • Player To Receive A Card - Joao Gomes @ 2/1

Team News

Leon Chiwome is Wolves' only injury absentee at the minute with a knee issue. Boss Vitor Pereira has everyone else available and he'll likely refrain from making many changes as he will need his best players to stand a chance against Chelsea.

Two players I could see being promoted to the lineup here are Joao Gomes and Hwang Hee-chan. Jorgen Strand Larsen netted his first league goal of the campaign from the penalty spot in Sunday's home defeat to Burnley.

The Norwegian striker has two goals in this competition so far, so he will pose Wolves' biggest threat in the final third again.

Football Odds

Mykhailo Mudryk (suspended), Levi Colwill (knee), Dario Essugo, Liam Delap (both thigh), Cole Palmer (groin) and Benoit Badiashile (muscle) remain unavailable for Chelsea.

Boss Enzo Maresca may feel more comfortable than his opposite number when it comes to making changes to his side. Malo Gusto is back available from suspension and is set to come back into the team here.

There may also be starts for the likes of Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Tyrique George and Jamie Gittens, while Alejandro Garnacho may keep his place in attack.

Wolves vs Chelsea Predicted Lineups

  • Wolves: Johnstone; Hoever, S Bueno, Krejci, H Bueno; Munetsi, Gomes, Andre; Arias, Larsen, Hwang
  • Chelsea: Jorgensen; Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah, Hato; Lavia, Santos; Gittens, Estevao, Garnacho; George

Today's Football Fixtures

Wolves vs Chelsea Odds

Wolves' only wins this season have come in the Carabao Cup, and they are 18/5 to stun Chelsea on Wednesday.

The draw is marketed at 3/1, while Chelsea are 7/10 (implied probability of 58.8%) to win in regulation time, and the Blues have won four of their last five matches in all competitions.

Five of Wolves' past six home appearances across all competitions have seen both teams get on the scoresheet - with BTTS - Yes valued at 8/13.

Wolves vs Chelsea Stats

  • Chelsea have won four of their last five games
  • BTTS has struck in five of the past six games held at Molineux
  • Joao Gomes (WOL) has been booked three times in the Premier League

Chelsea and Both Teams To Score - Yes @ 2/1

Maresca and his players will be eager to put the weekend's loss quickly behind them, and when better to do that than against the worst team in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Wolves are winless after nine games in the top flight and the tension reached boiling point on Sunday as fans were confronting Pereira and the players at full-time. It was a game in which they were not short of chances, and they did well to pull themselves level after going two goals down in the first half.

However, they are so bad at defending it makes any work in the final third redundant. And while I'm not particularly confident in Chelsea's defence, their attacking players could have a field day against Wolves' back line.

The Blues had won four matches on the bounce in all competitions before the Sunderland defeat, so I am confident that they will get back on track here. I do see Wolves getting on the scoresheet, though, as BTTS has been a winning selection in five of the last six competitive games held at Molineux.

Player To Receive A Card - Joao Gomes @ 2/1

Another tense atmosphere is expected in Molineux as the frustration at the club's plight continues to build on and off the pitch. I think the players are already starting to lose their cool, with a few of them coming onto social media to release statements to supporters after the Burnley defeat.

I can imagine things starting to unravel quickly against Chelsea if they go behind. That is why I think picking a home player to pick up a yellow card could be a sensible selection on Wednesday.

Midfielder Gomes is the one who I have opted for because he has already been booked three times in the Premier League, and he is the kind of player who can show his frustration in his challenges.
