Wigan Athletic suffered their heaviest defeat of the season losing 4-1 to rivals Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

However, the Latics’ home form has been strong and so, despite the setback, Ryan Lowe’s side will be confident of progressing in the League Cup when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Brick Community Stadium on Tuesday (19:45 BST, Sky Sports+).

The Chairboys have endured a difficult start to the campaign which resulted in manager Mike Dodds being sacked last week.

However, having swiftly appointed Michael Duff as the club’s new head coach, Wycombe got the new era off to a flying start with a 2-0 home win over Northampton Town over the weekend.

Wigan beat Notts County and Stockport to reach this stage of the competition, while Wycombe are in the third round after defeating Leyton Orient and Bromley.

Interestingly, one of these two League One sides will reach the fourth round having avoided teams from both the Premier League and Championship.

The Latics are strong on home turf and should have enough to beat Wycombe, though the new manager bounce means the Chairboys will prove to be a tough opponent.

Team News

Wigan could welcome back Jason Kerr after the defender had to pull out of the squad a day before Saturday’s defeat at Bolton. Callum Wright may also return to the side after dropping to the bench against Wanderers.

Wycombe will assess Jamie Mullins, who came off in the win over Northampton, while Will Norris is expected to play in goal ahead of usual number one Mikki van Sas, having started in the previous rounds.

Wigan vs Wycombe Odds

Wigan are 11/8 favourites to win on Tuesday, with the draw 9/4 and Wycombe the 11/5 outsiders.

The Latics have kept four clean sheets at home this season and another shutout is available at 9/5.

However, Wycombe have failed to score in just two of their 12 matches this season and so, alternatively, you can get both teams to score in Wigan on Tuesday at 4/5.

Wigan to win and both teams to score @ 18/5

Wigan’s route to the League Cup third round saw the Latics keep two clean sheets as they defeated League Two Notts County and League One rivals Stockport each by a 1-0 scoreline.

The Latics may not be able to stop Wanderers scoring this time as the Chairboys have regularly found the net this campaign, but do boast their own firepower to net the goals needed to progress.

Home advantage is key in this match-up and Wigan have won five of their six fixtures in League One and League Cup this season. Expect the Latics to add another victory to the run.

Paul Mullin anytime goalscorer @ 8/5

Paul Mullin’s prowess in front of goal is well known  after his scoring exploits were a key feature of the Wrexham’s rise.

His efforts at the Racecourse helped the Welsh side climb to the Championship and he has proved that he is lethal at this level.

The forward has scored four goals in 11 appearances for the Latics this season, notching in each of the last three games on the road.

Mullin can now add to his home tally against a Wycombe side who have recorded only one clean sheet away from Adams Park this season.
