Newcastle United will hope to continue their title defence in the Carabao Cup going on Wednesday (20:00 GMT, ITV1) when they host Tottenham Hotspur at St. James' Park. The Magpies head into this clash off the back of beating Fulham here on Saturday in the Premier League.

Team News

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is still having to manage a number of injuries. Yoane Wissa, Valentino Livramento (both knee), Harrison Ashby and Lewis Hall (both thigh) are all ruled out for this game, while Sven Botman is a doubt to feature because of a facial issue.

Howe will likely freshen up the team in midweek so there should be starts for the likes of Fabian Schar, Anthony Elanga, Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock, Emil Krafth, Aaron Ramsdale and Will Osula.

Tottenham have a much bigger injury list, with eight players set to miss out on the trip to Tyneside. James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin, Destiny Udogie (all knee), Kota Takai (foot), Dominic Solanke (ankle), Yves Bissouma (knock) and Cristian Romero (unspecified) are the players in question.

Antonin Kinsky is set to operate between the sticks, while Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray are likely to be promoted to the starting XI by boss Thomas Frank.

However, I am backing Newcastle to come out victorious because we have all seen how an electric atmosphere at SJP can carry the players over the line. Of course the fans will have their part to play, but the players should do alright on their own, especially as the last three occasions in which they have faced Tottenham here, they've won.

I do think this will be a close encounter and so I don't think there will be a flurry of goals on offer in Newcastle on Wednesday night. As such, I think under 3.5 goals appeals at 4/9 because it has been a successful bet in each of Spurs' previous four outings in all competitions.

As well as this, this has also been a winning selection in Newcastle's last four games and so I think this goal trend will continue for both clubs. There have also been fewer than four goals scored in each of the last three matches on Tyneside, so I am feeling quite confident about this pick.
