Newcastle United are getting attacked left, right and centre for their lethargic performance in the defeat against rivals Sunderland on Sunday in the Premier League. The Magpies are in Carabao Cup quarter-final action on Tuesday (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Premier League) as they entertain Fulham at St. James' Park.

The visitors head here off the back of three wins in five games across all competitions. Below you will find my Newcastle vs Fulham predictions, supported by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Newcastle defender Dan Burn was forced off with an injury against Sunderland and it turns out he punctured a lung and now faces a spell on the sidelines.. Fabian Schar replaced him at the Stadium of Light and he should come into the side from the start here.

With a lot of underwhelming performances at the weekend, boss Eddie Howe could promote the likes of Joelinton, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy to the XI here.

Nick Pope (groin), Kieran Trippier (hamstring), Emil Krafth (knee), Sven Botman (back) and Will Osula (ankle) are all confined to the treatment room.

Football Odds

Fulham boss Marco Silva will have to cope without the services of defender Calvin Bassey for the next few weeks due to the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, so Issa Diop could partner Joachim Andersen in defence on Tyneside.

Alex Iwobi and Samu Chukwueze have also linked up with the Super Eagles and so they too will be absent for the foreseeable future.

Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon are ruled out due to hamstring injuries.

Newcastle vs Fulham Predicted Lineups

  • Newcastle: Ramsdale; Livramento, Thiaw, Schar, Hall; Joelinton, Guimaraes, Willock; Murphy, Woltemade, Barnes
  • Fulham: Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Diop, Robinson; Lukic, Berge; Wilson, Smith Rowe, Kevin; Jimenez

Today's Football Fixtures

Newcastle vs Fulham Odds

Newcastle have won nine of their 13 home games in all competitions this term and they are 7/10 (implied probability of 58.8%) to win in regulation time.

The Magpies have drawn two of their past four competitive fixtures and the stalemate is valued at 3/1.

Fulham are 4/1 to prevail inside 90 minutes, having won three of their last five games.

There have been goals at both ends in each of the last three meetings between the two clubs and BTTS - Yes is priced at 8/11.

Newcastle vs Fulham Stats

  • Newcastle have won seven of the last nine competitive meetings
  • BTTS - Yes has struck in each of the las three head to head fixtures

Match Result & BTTS - Newcastle & Yes @ 23/10

Newcastle are fortunate they are the home team here because if this were at Craven Cottage, I'd be confident in backing Fulham. The Magpies' horrendous away record in the Premier League continued on Sunday against their bitter rivals and they looked toothless.

There will be pressure on Newcastle to deliver a quick response in midweek, particularly as they are the reigning Carabao Cup champions. In front of a frustrated home crowd, it feels like they cannot afford to lose this contest after what happened at Sunderland.

Howe could make a raft of changes and I don't think there would be many complaints as his team need to show more impetus in the final third.

Nick Woltemade scored an unfortunate own goal on Wearside and he will be determined to put that behind him quickly and a lot of players will be in need of strong performances here. Pressure will be on them to deliver here, but I fancy them to do that.

They have already beaten Fulham at home this season - a 2-1 win in the Premier League. In fact, Newcastle have beaten Fulham in seven of the past nine meetings in all competitions and I do see this trend continuing on Wednesday.

But with BTTS - Yes landing in each of the last three meetings between the two clubs, I'm adding this to boost the odds.

Anytime Goalscorer - Bruno Guimaraes @ 5/1

I tipped Bruno Guimaraes to find the net for Newcastle against Sunderland on Sunday - unsuccessfully - but I am undeterred from thinking this is a sensible selection.

Newcastle's Brazilian midfielder has two goals in his last four appearances for the Magpies, with both coming at St. James' Park. As the captain, he will arguably be more determined than anyone else to make sure that Newcastle get the win here after Sunday's embarrassing display.

Guimaraes has five goals in the Premier League this term and all of them have come on home turf, so this is where he prefers to do his scoring. One of them did come against the visitors in October, so I fancy him to haunt them on Wednesday.
